Just bought an UTG handguard for my SAR-1.  Is there anything of importance that I need to know before installing.  I've seen another post somewhere with helpful information regarding the installation of these,  but I'm unable to find that particular post again.

What kind of handguard are you talking about ? are you talking about a rail for your rifle? The quad rail from utg ? If so- it's very easy to install. You just remove the old handguards and it slips on and bolts right together. Just keep in mind not to over tighten and put undo pressure on the gas tube. Also get some  lock-tite and do the bolts on the assy to keep them from coming loose. It takes about 5 minutes to install then go and have some fun with it.....

I actually installed a pair of these last night.  There are a couple of tricky parts...

1.  The gas tube has to be installed prior to mounting the lower handgaurd. - This will require you closing the retainer for the lower handgaurd first (or you won't be able to lock it in place.  I recommend figuring out how many spacers are required for your gun before that step.

2.  The lower handgaurd is installed with the retainer already locked in place.  It should slide in tightly, and then be secured on with the top rail.

3.  Stupid thing that had me stumped for a while.  On the lower handgaurd there is a prong at the rear that looks like it should slide into the receiver.  It doesn't.  (I just saved you 30 mins. of frustration)

Good luck and enjot them!

Yes, I was talking about the UTG Quad Rail.  Thanks for the info,  will probably work on it next week.  Do you think lock-tite is necessary when using a torque wrench?

Yes I do- I learned from my Harley days to my shooting days- anything that vibrates needs lock-tite. While cleaning after my range trips- I noticed some  screws would be a bit loose. After a little blue lock-tite- all was good and no loose screws anymore... Hope you enjoy your rail- My son and myself are glad we got them for our ak's.
