Hey guys, Getting ready to order my first and most likely last AK but I can’t make up my mind between getting one with a fixed stock vs. an under-folder. Here’s my thinking… This gun will be used for plinking and as just something to add to the “collection”. My Financial situation does not allow for the standard AR15.com answer of buying both. My heart wants an under-folder, as they are as evil as they come. For 10 years the government told us we couldn’t have them so now that the ban is over, I would like to have one “just because”. An AK with an under-folder is a classic IMO. I haven’t seen a side folder I’ve cared for much plus they seem like that would get in the way of your trigger hand. That said, my brain is telling me to get a fixed stock because I would assume there is basically no way of getting anything that even resembles a check weld with an under-folder? Seeing how it will be a semi-auto, I don’t see firing from the hip or anything silly like that nor will I be clearing any buildings or such with it. So other than looking cool and being evil, I can’t think of a good reason to get an under-folder? My other thought is a buy a fixed stock and change my mind, I can have an under-folder added. If I get an under-folder, I’m pretty much stuck with it unless I want some extra holes in my receiver. What would\did you guys do when faced with this situation? Any of you buy an under-folder and regret it or visa\versa? Thanks! |

I've owned both, this is what I can tell you... 1. The underfolder, as you know, will not give a good cheek weld. However, they are a blast to shoot and can still deliver good accuracy (for an AK) with practice. 2. The fixed stock will give you a little more accuracy, but is not as evil. 3. What you want, from what you said, is a really bad-ass evil AK...you want the underfolder, so buy one. Otherwise, you won't be "satisfied." Put in some range time and you'll shoot it well enough.

Absolutely it's a good reason. But if he isn't going for that, I'd go fixed. |
Thanks for all the input guys. I like evil looking guns but I want to be able to enjoy shooting this gun as well so I think I'm going to follow this plan...
Thanks everybody |
