I bought a bunch of AKM flats back a few years ago when they were still really cheap. Had a few left over after building all of the kits. So finally decided to put an under folder together using one. I drilled the holes needed for the rear trunnion to fit and getting ready to assemble. Was curious about the extra reinforcing plate on bottom where grips bolts. I had to make one from some scrap since these receivers didnt use them. Is this just for strength since there would be more load and stress on pistol grip? I dont see them on other variants.

Yeah, for firing with stock folded, although I have never heard of an issue without it. My polish underfolder kit included the receiver stubs and there was no reinforcement plate there.
