Long story short, I purchased a higher end AK a while back, from a reputable manufacturer/builder. The barrel NOT the front sight on this rifle was canted nearly 1/2 inch, the MFG replaced the rifle. The replacement rifle lacked a feature that was advertised, they replaced that rifle as well. Now on rifle number 3 and the barrel NOT the front sight on this one is canted 1/4 inch. The rifle zeros at maxed out windage. The rifle was not cheap by any means.
Granted it is an AK and certain aspects of the rifle I can accept not being "perfect" due to how the things are made, but a canted barrel? Am I being unreasonable not being satisfied with this? |

If the drum has to be maxed out just to zero it, I'd say it's a valid complaint. Most rifles don't have perfectly lined up FSBs, but it shouldn't be that bad. |
| What rifle/manufacturer? Unfortunately due to the way that AK barrels are installed there are multiple reasons why a barrel can be canted. I would say that you're justified in not being satisfied, however many combloc factories would say that if it can be zero'd that it's fine. |

Do you have picture? I'm not sure how a barrel could be installed rotated 1/2" off? Quoted:

Yeah it was likely bent when the barrel was pressed into the trunion with too much pressure. The trunion appeared to be riveted in evenly. |

Sometimes the trunnion is drilled incorrectly and the barrel ends up being a little crooked. Never seen it myself but have heard of it happening.
However, 1/4" of cant? - how have you reached this determination? Simply by noting that zero takes a large amount of adjustment? The FSB cant is not hard to fix. Remove pins, center the sight post, and adjust the FSB as necessary until you get zero - keep the barrel cool as if it heads up the FSB can move a bit on its own. FSB can be rotated by whacking with a plastic mallet, possibly rotating with channel locks (use thick neoprene between jaws to protect FSB) if the FSB is loose enough. You may need to go up a pin size e.g. 1/8" then re-drill the pin channels and install new pins. I don't know what type of AK this is, but AKs are just one thing you should generally inspect in person before accepting if this sort of thing bothers you. |

Staight edge and levels to side of receiver and same to barrel on paper traced out, the barrel is not parallel with the receiver and if the barrel were a little longer it would intersect with the left side of the receiver. it visibly angles left and shoots left. |
