I recently purchased a CAI Bulgarian NDS-2 from a gun show a couple of weeks ago. I didn't field strip the rifle until after shooting it (hey, is an ak). When field stripping I noticed that it is really dificult to remove the top hand guard/gas tube assembly from the rifle, like pry it off with a long screw driver hard. It is just as hard, if not harder, to put back on. I think my gas block is too far back on the barrel. There are some finish marks in front of the gas block, like where it may suppose to sit and now it is pushed back farther. Also, the top hand guard does not line up with the bottom one. I have included pictures of those two problems. Anyone know how I can easily fix this? Just punch the two pins out on the gas block and hope and pray I can move it up the barrel without a press? I really don't want to pry and shove this thing on and off every time I go shooting.

that is one nasty case of the gas block being too close to the rear site block. Mine isn't as bad, but bad enough that I did have to dremel it to fit easily. There's really not many options other than having it put where it belongs. ETA: now that I read your whole post... ![]() I have a punch that fits inside the cleaning rod hole that I use to take the gas block off with. Remove pins and use punch as a hammering surface. You will need to check the gas hole in the barrel. It may be misdrilled or "modified". New pin holes will need to be drilled also. |

it would be a lot less work to trim the gas tube down some than move the gas block This is what I would do. Just file down the front of the gas tube until it fits a little easier. With the block being that far back I wonder if the port is also further back than it should be? Realistically if the port and gas block are positioned together it shouldn't cause any problems with function, just with the appearance of the rifle. |

really? that thing is like a 1/4" off! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b232/NICTRA/aks/P1000788.jpg get it fixed! +1 on a side note, where did you get them hand guards? |

I'd send that one back to Century.
If it was just an ill fitting gas tube, thats an easy fix. But since it is an out of place gas block, there are issues with the gas port in the barrel now. Once you move the gas block (since it is about 1/4" out of place) the gas tube probably won't even fit anymore, it'll be too short. The gas block is so out of place they had to have trimmed down the gas tube to make it fit. I'd just let the retards that built it deal with it. |

The gas tube has been modified to make the gun work. I've never seen anything like that and can only speculate that since it does function, it must have been done to compensate for an improperly placed gas port in the barrel. That one needs to go back where it came from for a new barrel and gas tube. ETA: Hey, I wonder if they had to shorten the gas piston or maybe it still had enough room in the gas block. That whole deal is just bizarre. |
