Got my two fixed stock Yugos today.  Very good rifling on both, and no pitting.  I received one blond and one brunette.  I got one of each type of night sight also.  The brunette has a very nice crest carved in it.  Both have cleaning rod and slant brake.  I would classify these as being in NRA very good condition.

Very nice cartouche, I have one that has a large cross and 4 C's (S's) on the opposite side. Wish the former owner had been an artist  as yours was!

It is definitely a hand carving.  Very well done though.  The entire crest is raised, with the wood around it carved away.

The four "C"s marking is an očila, or Serbian firesteel. I've got one carved into a stock on a M59/66 SKS.  Here's a page on the meaning:

www.nationalflaggen.de/flags-of-the-world/flags/cs-spc.html#mea

As for your coat of arms, that's Serbian as well.

www.nationalflaggen.de/flags-of-the-world/flags/cs-sr.html#coa

The Yugos on all sides of that civil war seemed to love carving stuff in their stocks.

If you find any with fleur-de-lis or Arabic inscriptions, that's a Bosnian rifle.

Cheers,

lansker
