I am helping a neighbor build an AK-74 using a virgin barrel.  We just pressed the barrel into the tunnion and it seems that it went in very easy. The barrel can be moved by hand with a good bit of force?  Is this too loose?  Will the barrel pin hold the headspace?

The kit and barrel came from APEX.  We did use anti-sieze during the install.

My G-kit was much harder to press in.

You shouldn't be able to move the barrel with your hand. That's not a good thing.

Pull the barrel and take some measurements. The barrel should be a press/interference fit, meaning a few thousandths larger than the trunnion.
Check for a cracked trunnion also.

Sometimes you get a barrel that's 1-2 thou. smaller and/or trunnion 1-2 thou. larger. Call Apex and tell them what's going on.

Thanks

We really noticed the problem while headspacing.  A bit of force on the bolt with the NOGO was move the barrel forward.

Looks like the trunion and barrel are going back and APEX.  They offered to find a trunion that fits the barrel.  Good service.

I does suck that we have to drill out the rivets to replace the trunion.
