I heard Vulcan is out of business, but their receivers (not built guns) are good.

FYI, I found a source for these receivers- I just took delivery of 4 myself today.  They look great.  There's a guy on gunbroker.com selling them.  I paid $72 ea.  Just search for "AK receiver".  I know he has more but he kept dodging the question in his email replies....

Hesse lives on, but is no longer in the AK reciever business, we think. A company in AZ has been reported to have gotten ahold of the tooling to make the recievers that Vulcan made. The details of this deal are very sketchy, there is speculation that Mr. Hesse has gone into business with the AZ company, as well as speculation that the company bought the tooling and dies outright.

However the deal was worked, the company who now has the equipment claims that they have made some changes to the design and the new recievers are even better (the old Vulcan made recievers were pretty good already). There is no doubt that the people who will now be using this tooling are very capable builders, but they do not have the best customer service history (this was always a problem with Hesse/Vulcan as well).

I will be buying some of these reciever as soon as they are available and in stock at a distrubitor that I trust to deliver the product I have paid for.

Hmmm.............Sounds like you are referring to Joeken, inc. But I may be mistaken.
Took 3 months to get a Vulcan receiver from them last summer.
However, the Vulcan receiver worked out fine on an AMD-65 build. I only had to file the ejector rail a bit.

Dies are fine, QC varies, most recently with soft ejectors needing heat treatment in an '04 batch. Watch the wear for the first few shoots just in case, but you are probably fine.
