3 part question
1. What feeding problems specifically is the wasr-2 line known to have? 2. What is the cause of the problem? 3. What is the solution to a problem? I pointed a friend and Newbie towards a WASR-2 and he is having problems. I really need to make this right so he isnt turned off of AK's. |
This is what I've experienced with some AK-74 mags. You can see the bolt missing the rear of the cartridge and then getting caught on it about half way. I had about 20 mags. I loaded them all with 5 rounds and then ran all the mags through the rifle. Whichever mag caused a jam, I set aside and marked it so I would know it did not function right. Only 3 or 4 of the mags caused this problem and they were a mix of Bulgarian and E. German. The only solution that I know of is to not use the mags causing the jams. I haven't had that problem since removing the mags from the equation.

My wasr-2 did exactly what his picture shows with every magazine. If I physically held the mag and pulled it back and upward it would function 100%. It seems as if the mag catch is to low and will not hold the mag up tight enough to reliable strip a round.
It worked fine as a single stack but had issues after opening up the magwell and using 30 rounders. For an easy fix I put jb weld on the underside of the tabs on the magazine and it worked 100% after that. I even sanded the jb weld, added primer and painted. It worked fine, but I knew it was bubbad and I couldn't stand it. Sold it during the madness for a hefty profit (disclosed the problem to the buyer). Sorry for any spelling or grammer issues. I have a 10/63 and have had the same issue. It did this with single stack and is now doing it with double stack. From what I have read while doing some research is there are a few different reasons they will do this. The common denominator between my SS and DS issues is the ammo, it has been Wolf HP. From what I found some AK's just won't feed HP ammo well. I haven't had a chance to grab some FMJ yet but that is going to be what I try before I try some of the fixes I found for feed issues. Another issue I found is like SickMAK90 said there is that gap, mine also works when holding the mag may have to try his fix if changing ammo doesn't work. One of the other fixes I found and will be the last thing I try is to polish a feed ramp in the barrel.

Aim Surplus has them priced pretty well right now. Get as many as you can afford. A lot of people are getting into 5.45 now.

my new AIM wasr2 has the OPPOSITE problem. the mag catch is too tight causing problems when trying to lock in the steel mag (won't lock), bakelite mags will lock when forced. plastic 74 mags have no issues. will try to shoot it soon.
