Went to shoot my WASR for the first time this weekend.  I coudln't load the mags.  5 rounds in an the rounds wouldn't seat right. I was using Wolf Military Classic ammo and th WASR mags that came with the weapon.

The ammo looked to not be seated all the way back (as they would be in an AR mag.)  Some of the rounds cought on the front of the mag (not the front lip of the mag, but just below that on the inner front wall.)  One of the guys I was shooting with said that he was pretty sure that it was junk mags.

How do I remedy this situation?

I had to revert back to shooting my Armalite M4C, Mossberg M590 MilSpec and my pistols.

Was the mag dented?  Did you clean them up before you tried to load them?  Some of these surplus mags have decades worth of dried grease and/or rust in the mag bodies that needs to be cleaned up before you use them.

Pop off the baseplate and remove the spring/follower so you can take a look inside.  Spray it down with brake cleaner and run a stiff brush up there to see if you can find the problem.

+1 I have found chicken feathers in some of my mags.
Also sounds like you're not loading the mags right. Once you load a couple rounds bang the back of the magaze on something solid to seat the rounds.

Lately it seems that Century ships their rifles weather they are Yugo M70s or GP WASR 10/63 with one good mag and one junk mag, or sometimes two junk mags. The two mags I got with my Yugo were outstanding bolt hold opens, however with my GP WASR 10/63 I received two of the worst mags I have ever seen. Lucky for me, I opened the packaging at the gun shop in front of the owner. He replaced them for me with no problems. He later told me that he tried the junk mags and they would not load past 10 to 12 rounds without the same issues you are having.

simple fix, when your loading the rounds, after each round push the round back, sometimes the tip of the bullet catches the front, all you gotta do i push it back and continue loading.

What kind of mag was it? The one that comes with it?

Make sure you seat the rounds fully. I find myself pushing the rounds back as I load them into the mag as they do tend to get caught on the front edge if you don't.

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, it is the mags that came with the rifle.  I'm use to AR mags, so when the ammo wouldn't seat, I was confused.  I did try to seat the ammo by tapping it to the rear, but this did not help.

I'll clean the mags tonight and see if I can load them.  Around town (Akron, OH), I'm not sure where to purchase AK mags, except at a gun show.

Gotta be a man with guns...
Push the rounds all the way to the rear or bang them harder.

Or get yourself a lula.

Got one mag loaded.  The 2nd mag was still having problems.  Some of the rounds (Wolf Military Classic) were measuring 2.199" OAL.  This was WAY too long for the mags.  Anyone else have this problem?

Edit: Upon further inspection, the mag front lip looks to be more rounded than the other mag.  It being rounded seems to be the problem and where the tips of the rounds are getting hung up on.

That doesn't sound right.  I just pulled the mag out of my SAR-1 and measured a few rounds.  All Wolf 123gr FMJ:

1.  2.194
2.  2.198
3.  2.195
4.  2.203
5.  2.196
6.  2.201
7.  2.200
8.  2.198

All of them fit in the mag (Polish) with room to spare.

Could he be using a AK-74 mag? Just a thought.
