I am looking for a Wasr to keep my MAK 90 company. I just saw them at a local gun show for anywhere between $475 and $599. Is ths a good price? I know about the mag wobble and front sights. Other than the previous issues is there anything else to look for? My main concern is a reliable, functional rifle.

I did see some with the slant muzzle brake and some that had what appeared to be a nut welded on the muzzle? WHY????

Can they be purchased on-line at better prices?

Too bad you don't have a Dunhams in your state! I picked one up last week for $290 on sale. But it is a single stack (for now). The things you listed are pretty much what you need to look for. I would also look at the gas block and make sure it's not canted. As long as your WASR has the correct number of 922r parts, you can replace the welded muzzel nut. Use a Dremel or hack saw to cut the weld (it's easy).

For the prices you listed, I would probably look around for something other than a WASR. Something with receiver dimples. However, you could take your chances with ordering one online. When it comes to WASRs I like to inspect them personally before buying them (for canted front sights, and gas blocks).

Here's J&G Sales' Romanian WASR 10 Rifle. I've never bought anything from them before though.

look for a ffl dealer for transfer fee or a pawn shop .lots of pawn shops will do it .Its around 25 bucks lots of times gun dealers will not do it because it is cutting in there business but pawn shops just want the money tell them to order it for you you pay and pick up when it comes in

If you're asking why the muzzle attachments are welded on, it's for compliance purposes. Once the attachment is welded on it's no longer counted as a separate part, which means Century doesn't have to put a US made one on the rifle.

What is a good price for a WASR in good shape? Other than gun shows I don't see many of them for sale.

$380 and $400 , both great companies with awesome customer service...

ETA: just saw you where asking for used price, never really seen any used WASR's for sale.. but with a new price around $400 I'm not sure I would bother with someones used gun..(seems to me like only people with one of the few crappy WASR's are likely to sell it.. everyone else hang on to, and shoot the s@#$ out of theirs)

I wouldn't pay any more than $400 for one. For any more than that you could get a better quality AK.

I was not referring to a used WASR, I gues it did sound like that beacuse of the way I worded the Post. I was wondering what a new WASR sells for. The local gun show around New Orleans( Slidell LA) had them for between $450 and $599 last Saturday.
I just thoughtnthat this seemed high,

Has the quality inproved to a point where I can order on line with actually seeing the rifle? Do they still have to be hand picked?

Is there a list of FFL holders on this site who will do a transfer?

there is a company that sells them online with a guarantee (from canted sights and sloppy magwells)

Let me see if I can dig up the name...

ETA: Henderson Defence  WASR

Prices are a little higher than the other two links I posted, and from personal experience with the other two companies, I know they will make things right if something is not sat with whatever you buy from them..

They appear to be out of stock at Henderson defense.

Henderson is GTG!  I scored a ceritified WASR from them last month, and couldn't be happier.  No issues whatsoever.

+1 for Henderson, no cant and the Tapco mags it came with fit perfect (not sure on the steel type magazines).

Only complaint is the wood furniture is a little rough.

That's why you refinish them! I paid about $250 for the bottom one back in 2003 and about $400 for the top one in 2009.

Some FFL dealers/Pawn Shops carry WASR's.  I picked my 10/63 up at one of these.  It has some aftermarket parts including tapco clip (no mag slop), tapco g2 trigger group, collapsible stock and slanted muzzle brake for a little over 450 dollars brand new.

Thanks! I used the directions posted in this thread to refinish mine. On page 3 of that thread, I have some more pictures of these WASR's and even one that shows what they looked like before I refinished them.
