I finally made some wax bullets and spent the entire day testing different amounts of wax, depth the wax goes into the cartridge, nose shape of the bullet etc... I found the best depth is to leave about a 1/4" of space at the bottom. I think that air pocket allows more compression of the wax bullet and it keeps the wax away from the hot primer. I also found the best blend of wax is to use the canning wax blocks. Do not heat the wax up and drip it into the bullet; it doesn't work very well. It also doesn't work as well if you heat up the wax bar to make it easier to push in the brass case. I drilled out the hole (I forget the name of it) to 1/8" but didn't try any other size. The size seemed to work well though. I also tested the penetration power of each type of wax bullet I made. The best penetration was through 2 thick pieces of cardboard and the wax bullet kept on going! I then made the cardboard 4 thick and the wax bullets consistently penetrated 2 pieces. The nose tip shape that penetrated the best was a small pointed tip type (as seen in my picture). This tip also seemed to yield the best accuracy. I got the wax bullets to give an accuracy of about 5 moa at 70feet! I was pretty impressed by how much accuracy I was able to get out of the best combination. I know this isn't amazing accuracy but I think it is quite good for something I made in my house. I am eventually going to make a mold for these bullets so they will come out consistently the same and should yield better results. I would love to eventually be able to sell these too! I am having a great time shooting these in my back yard and hope you guys will be able to gain something from this so you can too. I also had my brother shoot me from about 50 feet away. Well, the wax bullet hit me in my kidney (I was only wearing a thin T-shirt) and it hurt a little more than a paintball. It left a welt bigger than a quarter and stung for a long time. I know that was stupid but I wanted to know how much something like this could hurt someone. The only way to know was to get shot.

it would be an awesome sport, but the pollitical spinoffs from people shooting eachother with real guns would be a nightmare, not to mention the safety issues.
for the sporting topic, why not use sim-unitions?

A buddy and I used to shoot his .22 indoors when I was a kid.  We'd pull the slugs out of ,22 LR cartridges, and then shove the cased into a big candle to make wax "bullets".  Then we'd shoot them at his Boy Scout mess kit or dart board from accross the room.  Once we stuck a BB on top of the wax and shot the dart board.  It went through the dart board and a plaster and lath wall  I hope my kids don't do half the stupid shit I did.

Can you get sim-unitions? If you can, get me some! I heard they are extremely expensive. The whole problem with using these to shoot each other is that this is a real gun so if a real round was chambered..... Not good. I use them to practice quick acquisition and getting used to new pistols without having to actually reload.haha It is really cheap too. The only problem is if you don't have a ton of large pistol primers to spare, you probably don't want to do this. I have enough so I don't care. I tried the whole .22lr with wax but it isn't very accurate and the powder was burning so hot it was melting the wax and not allowing it to stay in one piece. I am continuing to try and new things with non-lethal rounds because it seems people really haven't spent a lot of time doing this. I could be totally wrong though. I guy was telling me that he used to take out the .22 bullet and put in some silicon tubing. I haven't tried that yet but I bet it would work great. These rounds would work great for rat hunting but that just about it.haha

Haha, that's funny. That isn't too bad though. I used to make some stuff when I was little......haha I bet you did worse.

I used to load wax 38s and shoot them in my basement.

Quite alot of fun.  I should do it again.

haha Ya, just make sure you have enough ventilation for those primers. I have been shooting the crap out of wax .45acp bullets lately.

The cowboy action shooters use wax bullets for the quickdraw competitions in case there is backsplash from teh relatively close target or they make a goof and the gun goes off early.

That being said, having someone intentionally shoot you???  And you weren't wearing any protective gear at all????

Have you seen what simple plastic shogtun wadding does at close range? Your lucky your 5 MOA bullet didn't wander and pop you in the eyeball.

Darwin is waiting in the wings with an award for you brother...

You should have shot a neighbor, using a silencer.

Same effect, no bruse on you.

haha. In Montana that would be a good way to get yourself shot by a real bullet.

That's why I had my back to him.
