| Say I get pulled over with my home brewed Romy G. It's got all the needed compliance parts, it's semi only, but a receiver with no serial number. How do I explain this to the officer should the need arise? |
just point to the number on the trunion or something and say thats the serial. you will not be able to explain it to him. dont try. he wont know the difference. |
| If you have a LEO (law enforcement officer) who is bright enough to recognize that despite all the serial numbers on the trunion, barrel, dust cover, spring (etc.) then they should be smart enough to know about the law that permits a regular law-abiding citizen to build firearms. The chance they will be able to identify where the receiver starts and everything else ends without knowing the AK and the unique builders groups it has following it is not very good. The thing they would sniff out would be a ground off serial number, so don't go that route no matter what! |

Ah - thanks for the SAR/WASR info. Didn't know that. And no way would I be grinding anything off. I'm just amazed by how a little bit of elbow grease on a Romanian kit will let you build a "minute of groundhog" toy. Call me crazy but after my experiences with a FAL cobbled together by Century, I feel safer with my own work. |
| If I were you, I would carry the BATFE paperwork which says you can build a gun without a serial number with me. It would cheap insurance. from getting your gun taken until the LEO figures it out when you bring it to the department later and have to hassle with paperwork and education of his legal team or sgt. |
