So I've noticed that when I go to clean my rifle after a range day right around (but not in) the chamber and around the muzzle end when I remove the muzzle brake there is some kind of hard, but strangely kinda gummy, crude. I use a wire brush and a dental scribe to remove as much of it as possible but can never seem to get it all. My question is....

1) What is this crap?

2) Do I need to be concerned if I don't get it all?

sounds like powder residue mixed with cosmoline.

Sounds like moist air with gun powder . Stop shooting in the shower.

I have the same problem with my SGL21

1.) It’s powder residue that’s been condensed due to the high pressures found inside the muzzle brake when you fire it.

The best way to get it off is to let in soak in CLP or some other powder solvent for a couple of minutes (I dip a paper towel in Hoppes and press it against the muzzle).

After soaking it, lightly scrub it with a wire brush and dental pic what remains.

2.) as long as your not shooting corrosive ammo you’ll be fine.

I have been using corrosive ammo... But so far I haven't seen any issues.
