The latest Dunhams sporting goods ad by me has AK on sale cheap. They are the type with either a sinlge stack ten round mag or a double stack 10 round mag. Which one should I buy? single or double stack?

Double stack model will take any standard AK mag.  Don't get the single stack as you're limited to 10rnd mags.  The double stack may only come with a 10rnd mag but get on sportsmansguide.com and order yourself two dozen 30rnd mags for $75/dozen and you'll be set.  You should have enough left over for some ammo and keep the price under $500.

Double for sure, just watch out for loose mag holes.  If you look these are converted single stack WASR's.  Which are the bottom of the scale for AK's.  They basically pay monkeys to take a dremel and hog out the mag hole to accept a double stack.  Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes not.

IMO it would be better to spend a little more money for a SAR or Yugo.

Funny I have a WASR 2 with 0 issues.

To the OP WASR 3s (5.56) are maligned here due to feeding issues.  In 7.62 or 5.45 995 of 1000 rifles will have 0 issues, 3 of them will have a canted FSB and 2 will ship broken due to the afforementioned hammer monkeys.  Last I heard CAI will replace free.  Buy with confidence and get the double stack capable  rifle.

That is a bold, bold claim.  No question, there are plenty of WASRs with no issues, but I would seriously urge any new AK owner to purchase one from a more reputable company.  For a little more money, you can get so much better.

This is exactly what I am talking about when I tell someone that "Brand" matters.  I have never had a AK variant that didnt work but some worked alot better than others.  When looking for a WASR I had tested the mag well on 3 (double stack converted rifles) before I found a rifle that worked.
