What AK would you recommend? Id like something chrome lined, definately hi cap compatible, i find that AK info is so spread around that its hard to do comparisons.

also, whats the low down on the rifles that appeared after the AWB expired

For a good starter AK I tell people a Norinco mak 90 or Romanian sar..Assuming you want one in 7.62x39..About the only difference between pre or post ban is folding stock,bayonet and detachable muzzel break or flash hider...

If you are an "AK newbie"....contact ORF and get one of their custom builds....it will be about 1-2 Hundred more, than going, but worth it.

most rom ak's need new trigger, canted sights fixed, and refinishing of the wood/parked
maks need a new stock wich can b a pain to install

About the only difference anymore is the lack of mag well dimples on the WASR,but the new WASR has all of the evil features.BTW,Welcome To The Dark Side!

SAR AKs were imported as high cap rifles, WASR rifles, gotta have the mag well cut out in order to use hi cap mags, most complain of mags being too loose or not fitting at all. SAR is the way to go.

Welcome aboard

For the money the WASR is not a bad AK at all. Depending of the WASR, you might have to do a little work on it, but other than that they are OK.

I also like the MAK-90's they are built with abuse in mind. Make sure if you are getting a MAK-90 that it has the stamped, straight cut reciever.
