Hello everyone Just put an ULTIMAK on the front of my MAK What do you suggest for a good red dot optic for this set up? I have Aimpoints on my AR's and really like those.I think I would like an "bigger" dot for this gun, but dont want to buy any cheap junk that I end up frustrated with. Any suggestions would be apreciated |

Nothing wrong with another Aimpoint. I have a Kobra with weaver base that has survived many rounds on a FAL. $130 well spent. Reticle is not quite as crisp as an Aimpoint/EOTech, and there is an emitter exposed at the rear which transmits the dot to the glass, and it may be covered by dirt in field abuse. Dot is 1.8moa. Although those 1-4x models from Trijicon and IOR have been getting my attention... And then there's this: www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=56&t=59332&w=searchPop |

I ended up buying a Kobra EKP-1S-03M from Yuri at freedomoptics.com at the new $205 price. Even at that price, it is half the cost of an Aimpoint M2, which is what I have on my M4. The Aimpoint is a superior optic, but is it twice as good? Probably not, but for me the decision was in keeping the optic with the system that it was designed for. Hence commie guns get commie optics. And although it was more of an aesthetic decision, they both are very effective. Both hold zero very well, are light and durable. Both allow very rapid acquisition of near targets and are easy to zero and operate. The Kobra offers more reticle options, but the Aimpoint has better optics. Anyway, they are close enough to love both of them which I do. I will post some photos and a review of the Kobra ASAP. Edit: just saw that you have an ultimak, so aimpoint is probably the way to go. |

Why not another Aimpoint? I have the Ultimak/Aimpoint combo on both my 5.45 and 7.62 guns and am sold on the setup. Why would you want something larger? Bear in mind that you are putting something on the front end of an already nose-heavy gun. The Aimpoint with the factory ring will let the iron sights co-witness through the scope and also permits a pretty fair cheek weld. Luck, SD |
