I took a build to the range the other day and had a strange thing happen.  when the rifle was fired the shell on the left hand side of the mag would strip from the mag, but would bind on the right side of the chamber causing the rifle to jam. as i continued to fire it, it happened fewer and fewer.  at the end of range time it would run fine. is this common with a new build ??  I was running russian surplus thru it.

not an expert, but it sounds like it was just working out a small problem. its not uncommon for built rifles to take a few hundred rounds to "break in"

yeah ya gotta remember that ya just built a rifle that had a receiver that worked with the rest of the rifle before,it was cut up.you bought it and you just put a new  engine(receiver) in it.it will take some time for the rounds to break the engine in.have patience grasshopper.

I would also agree. I have a few builds under my belt. The more they are shot , the better and more reliable they are.
The recurring problem with my builds are, bullet not seating in chamber all the way. I just keep working it back and forth. Works its self out.

Yes this is quite common, I would say around 1 out of 5 have this problem.  It's no big deal as the AK is a gun that gets better with use.  This tends to be a hard thing to sell to some one who is used to a gun being the best new out of the box but it is true.
