I'd like to keep my WASR-10 with a very classic look but I'd also like a folding stock for use in my vehicle. Just how comfortable are these? Also please note I'm in Alaska so I will be dealing with cold weather of I was to find one I'd probably add the paracord or a DIY cheek pad.  It would also be preferable to get a Romanian to keep the whole thing somewhat authentic but I don't see any in stock at any of the usual surplus places online. Are these rare at this point?

I bought a Romanian wire folder 6-7 years ago for $60. Now they're about twice as much money and hard to find. There are Polish tantal folding stocks out there but I like the Romanian ones better. If you go with the tantal folder, beware many of them have a broken tang from people not installing it correctly, so be sure to not buy a broken one.

I didn't think the Romanian folder was uncomfortable. After I wrapped it in paracord it was better. I liked it better than an underfolder stock I once held at a gun store. Some of the tantal stocks have a cheek riser with rubber padding on them and that works ok but I still prefer original Romanian. I suppose an alternative would be the Arsenal metal folding stock but those are out of production also. There is one place still making a solid sturdy metal folding stock but it's more expensive than what I paid for the Romanian one years ago. Some of the surplus stuff is drying up.

It's not as comfortable as a fixed stock but it's not horrible, either. I preferred the push button type with the wire offset to the left, instead of centered.

When I purchase my WASR 10/63 (my very first AK) a few weeks ago I didn't know that the wire folding stock it came with was not Romanian. It's actually a Tantal stock.  I was a little apprehensive about shooting the rifle with the wire folder but after taking it out to the range I can tell you that It was very comfortable to shoot.

You will not have any regrets...

I like the East German myself but they are definitely good to shoot.

Nice setup that is pretty much what I'm looking for. I'll probably have to settle for the East German or Polish setup for now and save some money in case I ever run across a rare deal on a Romy.

I have an EG folder that I got for $30 because the release tab was broken. Had my FIL weld it back together, it's been good for a number of years since then. Lock up is always very tight and has not degraded over time in the way that UF stocks would.

I have noticed some that wrap it don't go all the way to the butt pad. Going all the way back helps the shoulder.

They're not perfect, but I love mine.

I like my Polish one, couldn't find a Romanian. Not as nice shooting as a fixed stock, but can't beat it for compactness for a folding steel stock.
