We just got our season dates finalized, gonna start slinging steel shot on 10-11. Our early goose season opens 9-1 to try and knock off some of these local birds. I probably wont hunt that season though, to damn hot and I haven't been out checking the fields. Time to start checking the decoys lines and weights, waders, and stick the boat in the water. WOO HOO! |

hehehehe....way ahead of you bro! This week I have been: Put a 2" lift kit on my 4 wheeler, then installed 27" tires on it.(yes, I am a redneck), bought 60 boxes of dove loads($1.99 box at Bass Pro), a new floating Avery gun case, and hopefully tomorrow I am going to get to the trap range. Our season usually dosen't start until Dec(in MS), but I might also do some hunting in AR this season, hopefully next weekend I am going to go do some scouting in some WMAs on my new Monster 4 wheeler! There was an excellent article in lm's Delta Waterfowl journal about "Where were all the ducks?" It basically said that until we get some decent prarie potholes southern population will be sucking hind tit. It did have a very interesting fact. 10 1 acre ponds will produce 10 times as many ducks as 1 10 acre pond. I found that very interesting. I'm gettin' pumped bro!....dove's Sept1...just to wet our whistle! well crap! so much for a late season! Ducks, Mergansers and Coots (except Pintails) Opens Nov. 22, closes Nov. 23 Opens Nov. 28, closes Dec. 24 Opens Dec. 26, closes Jan. 25 Bag limits: Six, no more than four mallards (no more that two females), three mottled ducks, three scaup, one black duck, two wood ducks and two Redheads. ...last 2 years you got sunburned! early in the season!...wouldn't a cold wet winter be nice! Possession is twice the daily bag |

Yo Lumpsta.... since you are re-stringing the deeks, what are you using? I am contemplating restringing all of mine using that anti-tangle plastic stuff. I have molds, and melt the lead and pour my own weights. Just the expense, and time of switching to the non tangle line. What are you using? |
Right now they all have plain old nylon cord on them. My buddy uses the plastic tangle free line on his dekes and it seems to work pretty well. I am thinking about trying out if any of my lines need replacing. One thing to note, that stuff is not truly tangle free. It can get tangled up but it doesn't seem to turn into a snarled and knotted up mess like nylon line does.
Geez Campy....hauling out all that spiffy gear is half the fun. |
