No kidding. I never liked bullpups until I saw the SVU:

You'll probably like this.

I've seen that video clip. What they didn't show was that both the terrorist (read Chechnyan) and hostage got shot, because the hostage refused to pay tribute to Vladimir Putin by erecting a statue in his honor.

I still want to get my hands on one of those rifles. It would be nice if some Class III dealer or manufacturer had one. I just want to look at it and field strip the darn thing to see how it works. Its operating mechanism fascinates me. It's one thing to read about it on the web (and the original NRA Rifleman magazine article where I first read about it), but it's a whole different thing when you actually get your hands on it, take it apart and shoot the darn thing. That's how you get to understand how these things work.

Actually yesterday it was -9F (i.e. -26C), 30fps wind, 97% humidity, heavy snowing, less than 1mile feasibility – a hell of weather. :)

Concerning AN94 and SVU – I don’t really like both.

AN is rather complicated and ugly, shooting 600rpm makes no difference comparing to AK. When making 2 round bursts at 1800rpm the weapon is really stable, but I don’t see any use in such shooting: if someone has a lack of stopping power in 5.45x39 to make two holes in one target, than use 7.62x39!

In case of SVU, I don’t get the use of "sniper rifle" with 3MOA accuracy and 7.62x39 ballistics (it is actually chambered in 7.62x54R, but this cartridge has a bit less than 2000fps in short 21' barrel). Nevertheless I'm an SVD fan, and hope to purchase SVD with folding stock in .308Win as soon as it become available here.

Looks wise on the AN-94 i'd say the muzzle device is sorta ugly.

A-ha. And aslo rusting fast, rather difficult to clean and comlicated in production (i.e. expencive). But it looks to be very effective, maybe even more effective, than AK74 muzzle device, that is one of best i've seen.

AR vs. AK? Well in Russian webboards this topic causes as much threads as here. :)

My opinion. I'm a proud owner of AK104-1 (semi auto), earlier used to shoot a lot with issued AK74. Saying that I became a fan of AR15 after first trying it and I really want to have one. IMHO AR is a perfect rifle for practical shooting thanks to superior ergonomics and faster reload.

On my AK I use for IPSC I have AR grip and M16A2-style Krebs peep sight. I'm also thinking of installing M4-style buttstock and TDI trirail for Surefire flashlight and vertical foregrip. I do all that not for making the "best of two worlds", but just for economical reasons: The price of semi-auto AK here is $200-$300, SVD goes for $500-$800, but semiauto AR is $3000+ and it is very rare.

Hope some day I could afford M4 type rifle and make AR vs. AK choice more practical. So far in my case AR vs. AK choice is a choice between better ergonomics and better price.

Yep, these are US Dollars. :(

Concerning SVD, $500-$800 (15.000-25.000RUR) is a price of "SVD type"or "SVDS type" modern 'Tigr" rifles, which differ from current military SVD/SVDS only by markings on receiver and groves profile. Actual technical data (including accuracy) and production sequence of both rifles are absolutely identical.

Concerning "real SVD", I mean rifles marked like "SVD" not "Tiger-SVD", they are shipped to army only and their sales for civilians are prohibited here. But as I said modern Tigrs and modern SVDs are unified in production and hence technically identical.
