i have never owned an ak, but understand they are better than an ar. is this true?
i want a weapon that works with little care, a boat gun, truck gun that does not need tender loving care.
also want a short barrel for the above purpose.
which ak should i get?  dont know anything about them but want a good one.
       THANKS

You just specified all the points for owning an AK. Pickup a SAR 1 or SAR 2 and you'll be good to go. A used MAK 90 will go for $250-300 also.

Is a Ford F350 better than a Ferrari? For the uses you have specified an AK would be perfect, and would probably hold up better with little mainenance than an AR15, but it will need cleaned occasionally, or the condensation that will form on the internals will mix with all of the dust and other residue inside of the gun and act like glue, which can be detrimental to the availabitlity of the weapon.

for the ultimate truck/boat/farm rifle, the $300+ romanian sar series are the best bargain in a rifle that requires close to zero care and you won't feel badly about mistreating.

for higher quality, at an increased priced, a good, used hungarian or bulgarian thumbhole post-ban makes a great choice.

and don't forget about those used chinese mak-90's...a great value in a low priced kalashnikov.
