Is their any way to add side rails to an ak reciever that is already built into an AK?

Yes. Go to www.tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html and get one. Relatively easy to install ans requires minimal tools.

Yes there are screw-on types like the 2 left most rails shown in the above link. There are also ones exactly like those except that they are intended to be used with rivets instead of screws- they don't have screw threads but have recesses for rivets in the same exact spots. You can pick these rivet types up for $15 (chinese) or $20 (russian) from Centerfiresystems.com. These are different from "normal" AK-74 (3rd from left in above link) or AKM (4th from left in link) side rails, in which the rear most rivet goes through a rivet hole in the rear trunnion. You could use those but you'd have to remove the rear trunnion (more effort).
