.

I was firing one of my SAR-2s this morning when the bolt stopped going forward.  As this is an unusual occurance, I took the rifle down and looked inside to see why it had happened.

Seems one of the legs on the shepherd's crook replacement plate had broken off.  This allowed the whole plate to shift letting the hammer and trigger pins to drift out slightly, binding the bolt in the rearward position.

Anyone else ever had one of these plate fail?

It's truly frustrating to me, as I had thought that these plates were foolproof and safe.  I have them in all of my AKs.  Now I can't trust any of them.  What's worse,  I bought both Powers and Tapco plates.  And I don't know who made this particular plate as I didn't keep track of which type was used in which rifle.

Then by that logic you can't trust anything.  Shit breaks sometimes dude, it's life.  Do you honestly think that a spring, or a $.02 e-clip is better?......... replace the plate and keep shooting.

Don't let it get to you.
Stuff breaks.
These retainer plates are in wide use, so if there was a breakage problem, we'd have heard about it.

Even an AK can break.

How are those replacements over the wire variety? I've thought about getting one.

Yea I wouldn't worry about that breaking. If it does a second time then I would look at it more closely. I don't think it should be breaking though. Sounds like they tempered that thing a little too much.
