How does the cobra compare with the Eotech?  Does the Cobra also have the dot that stays on target even when your eye and head position is different.  Not like the Simmons, BSA ones that move when you move your head position.

I have an AK that's just asking for a red dot, but I don't want another Simmons/BSA moving dot.  I'd like to have one like the Eotech/Aimpoint that stays on the target no matter where your head/eye is.

Thanks

I have 2 Kobra's.
One on a MAC90 w/side rail and the other on an Armalite 16" Mid-Length w/weaver rail.

They are great. They stay on target when you move your eyes or head. Great for both eyes open shooting. Very rapid target aquisition and follow up shots.

I got mine from Tantal

Give him a try. He's a pleasure to do business with.

How much would one expect to pay for one of those Gen. II Kobras?

$300?
$400?

Ive seen a wide range of prices for different versions of the Kobra sights, but i an very interested in picking one up.

No more than $185. Freedom Optics is great to deal with.

Wow thanks for the link! Will be placing my order soon.  Is the EKP-8-02 the reccomended version?  I haven't done much extensive reading on the Kobras and any input would be appreciated.  Pros/Cons for different models, or is this newer one just the best?  Thanks for the help.

I think the one listed on freedom optics site is the latest version. It's the one I have and it has worked very well. Also Yuri from freedom optics is the fastest shipper I have ever dealt with. He is #1 for russian optics.

Very interesting-- how hard are these to adapt to a Weaver/M1913 rail?

[RosannaDanna] Never mind [/RosannaDanna] -- just saw the unit at Tantal's page. Might have to get one of these--

Reticle choices are nice on the Kobra, and the dot over chevron works best for me. Brackets for varied distances to 100yds (consider angle from bbl/sight in play), obviously on the target but modest moa for detail work. The coin batteries are $3.20 at Radio Shack now, and my weaver model has even survived a few hundred rounds on a FAL. And my SAR1 has LOTS of rounds on the side rail version.
Also consider the PKAS for circle-dot reticle like an Eotech.

Since it's for an AK, you've got to go with Kobra in order to please the AK gods on this board.  LOL.  Seeing that you are a paying customer, you should be able to search for the reviews I posted for the AK mount version in the AK optics board as well as the picatinny version in the AR optics forum.  I cannot provide the links since it was over 30 days ago when I posted the reviews.  I am too cheap to pay for full access to this site.

In the picatinny version review (model EKP-8-18), you'll see all sorts of criticisms from the stereotypical AR guys.

Don't mean to hijack, but I just got a PK-AS-A from Tantal.  If you like the Aimpoint style and operation more than the Eotech, check it out.  I dont have an Eotech or a Kobra.  I do have an Aimpoint on an AR and I picked the PK over the Kobra for my AK.  Very happy with it and Tantal was great.

I have an Eotech and Aimpoint. I like my Eotech better.  The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a cover and is prone to run into things.  Also I don't like the 2 button turn off method.  I end up using 2 hands to turn it off and that's cheesy.

I'm looking right now for a Cobra for my AK side rail.  Wondering how they compare to Eotech's though due to the nicer $$$

How rigid is the cover over the optic plane on the Cobra? Equal in rigidity to the Eotech?

I have not tried the hammer test, but if it's Russian milspec it is not weak.

I own a  03M(AA, LEFT SIDE CONTROLS) , 02(COIN BAT, RIGHT SIDE CONTROLS) AND 18, (COIN BAT PICATINNY RAIL RIGHT SIDE CONTROLS)
For an AK, i prefer the 03M. I use AA lithiums, and the buttons are better protected than on the 02.
these things return to zero much better than my Aimpoint, or EOTECH does.
I have 2 of the ARs outfitted with picatinny rail models, one is my .50 beowulf, and it has lasted 500 rounds so far..

I had one on a FAL which I propped carelessly against something. The rifle fell and hit the concrete floor, or to be exact, the Kobra "broke the fall" with the lens cover/guard/whatever. Didn't shift zero.

I also have an Eotech (on my AR) and a PK-AS (on my AK), I prefer both to the Kobra.
One big minus is the open structure, rain and/or snow will render it inoperable quickly as the led or whatever it is gets wet and won't project the reticle properly.
Of course no prob for fair weather shooters and those living in desert climates.
