first off, stop that all caps crap secondly, you have a chinese built type 56 rifle. the chinese rifles are among the best ever made. yours was imported prior to the 89 restrictions on "bad" rifles which spawned the MAK90- a nicer, gentler version of the rifle you have. how much did you pay for it? |
|
can you take a pic of it? specifically the selector(right) side? more than likely it is not full auto, if it turns out to be, then delete this thread and hide it. does the selector have three positions? or is it all the way up or all the way down with no stops in between? and as far as manufacturing goes, it could have been made in a number of state owned factories in China and then sold to the US market by polytechnologies or norinco- both fronts for the state owned weapons producers. |
| it might be old enough, but that is a moot point if it is not registered with the NFA registry. if you dont have a tax stamp and papers with that rifle's serial number and your name and adress on it it is an illegally held automatic weapon. that of course means that your dogs and anal virginity are in jeopardy. |

if it turns out to be auto. would it be legal if it was converted to semi only and destroy the auto parts. i am thinking of selling this rifle and am trying to figure out what it might be worth and what i need to do to sell it. if it is auto i will definitely destroy it or convert it to semi if that legal. i will defintely not sell an auto, unless legally to dealer. |

Is there an "S" after the 56? Most pre-89 chinese imports are marked 56S, 84S, etc, the S standing for Semi. IF indeed the selector markings are L & D, and it has the evil 3rd hole, you have a FA export model of a Chinese type 56 AK. I've seen a lot of custom AK's lately that have the 3 position safety and markings for the "authentic" look. So I wouldn't go by the safety markings or positions alone. |

With chinese AKs, since it is pre 89 I do not think there is a way to know when it was made or imported. With the post 89 chinese AKs, most of them had a 2 digit year date code stamped before the serial #. When looking at your rifle from the LEFT side of the receiver, do you see 2 pins, or 3? Make sure you count pins, they have flat heads, the rivets are rounded. |

Firstly, there is almost no chance of your rifle being imported as a FA weapon. All imported machine guns (transferable) were banned in 1968. 99.99999% of all xferable FA Ak's today are pre-86 registered conversions or Viet Nam bring backs. Now, you have given no details of how you aquired your rifle. Maybe it was a bring back that sat in an attic for 30 years but I doubt it. Odds are that your rifle is a nice pre-89 semi-auto import. Rather than explain locations of "3rd holes" or what an autosear looks like, just put the selector in every position (other than all the way up safe) and hold the trigger while you hand cycle the bolt carrier (pull the top cover off to see better). If the hammer drops when the bolt locks up (closes) without you releasing the trigger than it is a machine gun. If you have to release the trigger and then pull again to drop the hammer, it is a semi. End of story. Let us know what you find out. |
There was a batch of guns that got through and were sold that had the 3 hole, but had the auto sear cut. IIRC. |
