| Does anyone here have 1st hand experience with the DPH ak74 side folder? How's the quality, fit, etc. compared to the original? I'm trying to decide on a fixed or DPH Ak74 style side folder and can't find anything except the DPH version. Thanks ahead of time. |

If you dont mind not having a real Reproduction of a Bulgy Side folder, than the DPH is for you. It does not work w/ Real bulgy Triangle stocks or full side folding stocks. Spring can be compressed w/ your hand.......... There is more, but i dont want to be banned for bashing DPH |

I really wish now that I had a membership over there because I've been dying to see what end-users thought of this particular reproduction. But this alone is enough to scare me. |

An example of the thread w/ some pix.
I'm going to assume you weren't referring to me as I was neither whining nor was I "raising a ruckus" I was simply relaying my experience to the OP who was asking about people's actual EXPERIENCE with these folders.
That said, I may have to retract some of what I posted. My problems with the rear latch were with a KVAR polymer stock installed. When I put the triangle folder on, it did lock up tight. So if you're looking for a few parts to complete your BULGARIAN sidefolder, this stockset is a no go. But if you use the whole set togther, it will probably work. I'm still dissapointed, after all these are supposed to be mil spec; to me, that means the parts should interchange. Here are a couple pictures of the problem I'm having with the rear latch and the KVAR polymer sidefolder.
Here you see the stock latched and the latch is all the way down. It does catch the stock, but it leaves wobble.
Here the other side is interfering with a scope mount, this is a really annoying problem, but I guess it's my fault for assuming parts interchangeability  So you might discount those problems as my own fault, but this is still unacceptable to me:
Now I admit I've got some meathooks for hands, but there's no way anybody could do that with an original Bulgy spring, this one's just too weak IMO. I should know too, because I bought the Bulgy set KVAR briefly had in stock a couple weeks ago. I would have bought two, but I had already commited to buying the DPH one  I'm not gonna take a bunch of pictures of the minor differences, because they are minor, and I've got better things to do. Edit: My Post: Quote from the EE on AK47.net Quoted:
Stocks arrived last week. We have shipped out most all of the "presale" orders. We will get the rest of them out on Monday. We have several more available. These are reproductions of the Bulgarian AK74 side folding stock. They are NOT US made, therefore they do not count as a compliance part. The stock comes with the rear trunion, triangular folding stock, and all of the front latching parts. Very good quality and made to military specs. $149.99 Scott CLICK HERE http://dpharms.com/images/ak74%20side%20folder.jpg Then, Quoted:
Sorry for the slow reply.... These are being made in Tiawan. This is a project that we have been working on for almost a year. This is a project that we went looking for a company to do for us. We looked at several companies and decided on this one. We have done a few projects with them in the past. I can assure you that these are being made to military spec and the quality is top notch. If we didnt tell you that they were a reproduction of the Bulgy stock......you wouldnt know the difference. scot If these are military spec, then using an Original Triangle or Soldfolder shouldn't be an issue right???????????? Hey, we shouldn't know the difference right? I mean look at their web site.... Thats a Bulgy sidefolder in the pic still. I'm not bad mouthing DPH, but im quoting the FACTS...... If someone goes to DPH's website right now (11/23/09), the parts are called: Bulgarian Sidefolder Stock Rear Tunion Assmembly
This is new reproduction Bulgarian rear trunions consisting of : HERE |

In all honesty, the DPH set will probably work fine for you. However, if you want authentic looking parts, look elsewhere. Every single piece is noticably different from a Bulgy original.
As Rube mentioned, the parts DO NOT interchange. I mean nothing. The pin size for the front latch is different. The KVAR poly folding stock doesn't play well with the DPH rear latch and I suspect an original triangle stock wouldn't either. It was suggested by a poster in the other thread that these stock sets are pieces of shit. I can't agree. The parts do appear to be good quality, they are just not the mill spec reproductions they were supposed to be. |
