I don't own a press.  I'm never going to own a press.

I'd really like to do an 80% build, but most building events are pretty much geared to one showing up with a complete receiver.

That said, what's a better idea,  trying to mooch of someone with a bending jig, etc, or working a pre-bent blank?

Also, not having a press, am I SOL for removing the barrel pin and barrel?   I have read about the Romys being VERY tight, and conventional hammering not cutting it.

It took drilling out the pin, and using a separate punch, to remove the barrel pin, on my rommy "G" kits. they were too tough for my 12 ton press, even with proper trunnion support. so, don't bother getting the press, drill out the pin, replace with a new one(all east european ones are .276 diameter, 7mm) , approx $4.00 each from K-VAR, and hammer back into place with a 3 pound mini-sledge. no you you aren't SOL, just some extra work to make these kits work for you....my experience

3-pound sledge, check.   bench vise, check.  Punches, check.

Drill press...aw crap.

I do have plans to get one, but I can't imagine doing this without one.   I did a Saiga conversion with a dremel and a hand drill and it took 13 hours.       Or at least it seemed like it.

I live in an apartment, so I'm looking into small presses that are still capable of handling most gunsmithing tasks.
