I built a yugo stamped receiver M70 and since it wasn't a matching # kit the headspace is off.
Weird thing is the bolt closes on a no go guage and will close with force on a live round. I'm using a Mason Reamers no go guage, but why would it close on a no go guage and be tight on a live round? FREE |

Hi FREE,
Doesn't really add up, does it? Indulge me.. do a complete and thorough cleaning of the chamber, freebore and bolt face.. as well as the locking lugs in the trunnion.. and strip the bolt for that matter. Try it again, this time with live rounds from more than one source. I would generally never advise any sort of functional check with live ammo, but it shouldn't be any danger with a stripped bolt in the hands of a skilled operator (like yourself). A round that is too wide can behave like a round that is too long in cases of a tapered cartridge, like 7.62x39. -L |

FREE Brass is elastic and you can compress it. 1) Are you using any force to close the bolt on the gage? 2) Is the bolt stripped? 3) Have you tried a go gage? BSW |

1. yes im using force to close the bolt on a live round.
2. No 3. no, I don't own one I just use a round as a go guage. The face of the barrel looks fine, i built a stamped receiver Yugo out of a milled kit for a buddy of mine. He included the stamped receiver trunions, but the barrel came from a milled AK. I'm stumped as to why its doing this

Hi FREE,
It would be good to determine where & why the live round is interfering with the chamber. Obviously, the only differences which should exist between a NO-GO and a live round are: - The live round has a full case neck & bullet - The NO-GO is longer from the head to a pre-determined point on the bottleneck. You might consider coloring the end of the case & bullet of the round with a black Sharpie, then attempting to chamber it (not too forcefully) a number of times to see where the cartridge is contacting the chamber. It might provide some insight. But if I had to make a wild guess about this, I'd say that there is a defect in the barrel.. and that defect is a lack of sufficient freebore. In other words, the bullet on the round is meeting rifling as it attempts to enter battery. The Sharpie test should tell you this without any ambiguity. Very curious to know. -L |
