Received, and 90 rds fired.  Troy its shoots like a dream,  Have a question around the front sight there was some watery pruple color stuff coming out, any ideas?  BTW: out of the 90 I hit 70 rds on the size of a dinner plate from a hundred yards out!!!  Thanks for the great workmanship and service.

this is a mixture of factory (bulgarian) assembly lubricants and some 'un-killed' park solution.

this always happens were there is a joint that is not easily flushed where two pieces of steel meet.

the solution is to hose it down with wd-40 or kroil oil. keep after it for a few applications and the chemical reaction will eventually stop.

GOT MINE TODAY, TOO!!!

Almost didn't though. I was at work and my wife was getting ready to leave for the day with a girlfriend when the mailman pulled up with it. Her friend arrived 10 minutes later. Whew! I would have been a little upset if i'd have had to wait another day.

It looks very nice, especially with the PO scope on it. The optic rail must sit a little lower on this rifle as opposed to the one on my old SAR-2, as my scope just barely cleared the receiver cover. Fit and finish are good, with an excellent rivet job. My bolt hangs up a little when drawn by hand to the rear and I must yank the bolt back hard to free it. I feel that it won't be a problem under firing conditions and will probably wear in pretty quickly. This is the first AK I've had with a RSA trigger group installed. Talk about sweet! I probably won't fire it until the weekend. I don't have a cleaning kit for it yet and don't want to dirty up a beauty such as this rifle and leave it sitting for days. I'd post photos, but I no longer have free photo hosting and haven't sprung for a "paying" membership on this site yet.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with Troy's workmanship and would deal with him again in the future if funds would ever allow.

Did you use the Russian rail from Tantal?, it does sit about 1mm lower. HBarski has a "fix" posted if your PSOP scopes won't fit.

I don't think Krink production even starts until after the creek...

Rotdorn, yeah, I'm using the Russian rail from Tantal. I did the "fix" on my scope's cap back when your brother mentioned his problem. I did mine slightly different though. I took off metal on the threaded-side of the cap instead of the exterior-side, as it allowed more metal to be removed. I had quite a bit of clearance after that when mounted on my SAR-2. When I mounted it today on the new rifle it comes close to touching, but will probably be fine.

For those of us no as fortunate to have made it into this go-round - can anyone point me to a past exchange that outlines what one needs to get to Inrange and how to source the parts?  I've got the funds and I'm ready.

Thanks,

chief, call k-var and order one of the bulgarian parts kits. krinkov (aks-74u) are what troy is going to build the next batch of (he does nearly identical batch builds to take advantage of economy-of-scale). if you want a 16" std. carbine, i think troy is doing another batch after the krinks and a shop move...contact him for his schedule/plans.

then, you'll need a receiver...to match your calibre, of course: www.ohioordnanceworks.com/

and a usa trigger set from: www.redstararms.com

I bought a Bulgarian AK-74 kit from K-Var, but they are currently sold out. I also picked up a US-made pistol grip from them. I then picked up a US-made gas piston from Tapco. I got my receiver from Ohio Ordnance works. I sent it all to In Range and Troy supplied the Red Star Arms firecontrols. I also picked up a Russian optic rail from Tantal. That pretty much sums it up, and I have the required 6 parts installed to make my muzzle-braked AK-74 US-legal.

Hiram, you might want to call him. I had my wife wait all day Monday to no avail. I finally had her call him on Tues and he said he would ship on Thurs.

I expected a phone call or something too, but being patient bites.

CWO,
That stock has to have the receiver HEAVILY modified, it has a completely different rear trunion, and if installed on a preban, folds to the side.

Any nar-do-weller, or any one else can purchase one from K-var part #AK007BFS

RPBIndustries sells a faux one, that mounts on the standard trunion for about $50 iirc, I think Blaze1 had one put on his.

Hey guys I was looking at kvar's web site, I'm not gonna be able to make this batch ($$$), but I had a question, All the 5.45 and 5.56 kits had side folder stocks, and one of the 7.62 kit had an underfolder.  What is the authenticity of a 5.45 underfolder?
4/3/2003 3:31:47 AM EDT
[#29]
many commie countries built the 7.62 akm underfolder. when the russians introduced the ak-74, it was soon offered with the triangular left side folding pressed sheet steel stock (see roydorn's pic). later, the russians switched to a left side folding polymer buttstock that looks similar to the fixed stock.

the east german, poles, romanians, etc. built their ak-74's using the right side folding wire stock.

the bulgarians used the polymer left side folder on their ak-74 carbines and the triangular stock on their 5.45 krinkovs. they fitted the underfolder to the old ak-47 milled receiver to build their 5.56 krinkov while the 7.62 krink was fitted with the triangular stock.

afaik, no factory/issue 5.45 underfolders made it into production.

Having visit K-VAR's website - it appears they have several Krink part kits for sale.  How should I go about picking the right one (AKS-74U?)- just a matter of caliber?

Appreciate the insight,
CWO

i would go with the traditional aks-74u in 5.45x39.5 calibre. this round recoils with less energy than the other two choices and suits the nature of the krinkov's size and intended use best imo.

7.62x39 is too much of a jackhammer for me. in full auto it is close to worthless. with a faux can and in semi it is 'usable', but still defies common sense other that for those folks that like to save $5-10 per case of ammunition.

.223 is my second choice of chambering. again, the recoil is just a bit much for my liking, but more managable than 7.62x39. don't let this dissuade you, as some folks enjoy having a rifle that thumps a little and pulls up the muzzle.

all 3 calibres offer the same "fun factor", it's just what you hope to hit and how far away that target is that makes the choice of the .22 calibres more logical by my way of thinking.

Campy:  Thanks for your reply.  Your advice is appreciated.  I'll probably go with 5.45 and a laminated wood stock set.  I must confess that I secretly covet one of those nasty looking wire stocks with the smooth metal shoulder "pad".  I may have to source one for this project.

Thanks again!
