I want to change my breaker box so I can hook up a generator in case of a power outage.
How difficult is this to do?

A little more involved than changing an empty mag on AK.

Cheapest and easiest method:

Backfeed it through a 30 amp breaker.
Use a generator interlock switch (meets code) http://www.interlockkit.com/index.htm
Just put the proper NEMA plug on an exterior wall.
