So i just got my arsenal SA M-7 milled side folder and want to get a russion style scope mount that attaches to the side rail on the receiver.
Im planning on either mounting a trijicon accupoint scope on a larue mount for the time being and eventually mount some kind of primary arms red dot. The K-Var ones look pretty legit but they are $100 and im seeing what looks to be the same ones on gunbroker and gunsamerica for about $50. Can yall recommend what model # i should be looking for, where i should be looking for it, and what price i should be paying? When this project is done i will bench rest this gun with brass cased handloads and post pics of all of the results. |

The lowest rails of good quality are the MI mount: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=433 or the NPZ mount: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=256936359 Obviously the MI rail is cheaper, the NPZ rail will be more forgiving in terms of eye relief because the rail extends further forward. All depends on the particular scope in question. Eye relief is a non-issue with red dots but should be a concern with magnified scopes. If you see a K-Var KV-04 for $50 new, it's highly likely that it's a Chinese knock-off. Quite a few of them out there and the quality is no where near that of K-Var's version. |

Honestly Liquid Metal, i think im about to learn a $59 lesson!
I ordered this last night and they sent me a USPS shipping tracking # a minute ago... http://www.steelcityarmory.com/original-bp-02-ak-saiga-vepr-low-profile-centered-side-mount-to-weaver-rail-w-tactical-side-rail.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping It says that its original russian military issue equipment and the side of it says "Made in Belarius" (which sounds russian) so i figured that it was acceptable. Am i gonna get screwed on that purchase? |

The BP02 is a decent mount. It's a bit heavier than the K-VAR and sits a bit higher, but it's a sturdy mount. I have one that I use with an old Aimpoint 5000 and haven't had any issues with it. It is offset about 1/4" to the right of the centerline, though. That might bother some people, but doesn't matter to me. With all the different variances between rifles, yours might be centered or offset to either side.
And Belarus is an independent country near Russia. Former member of the Soviet Union. I spent 8 months at the US embassy in Minsk a few years ago. Pretty countryside, but a lot of hardcore communists still cling to power there. |

Yeah, the BP-02 is decent. I've owned 3 or 4 of them over the years (still have 2 of them in a box somewhere) and while they will get the job done most of the time, I have raised my expectations of what defines a quality scope mount and therefore don't use them anymore. To each his own and all that. |

The other one is $200 and i dont really want to spend that much. I bought a BP-02 and it sits too high as well, Im ready to purchase the midwest industries scope mount right now but i cant find any good photos of it actually installed on anything. Can anyone give me any assurances that the actual 1913 mounting rail of the MI mount sits really low, like in line with the sights or thereabouts, or at least lower than the BP-02? Any help would be GREATLY appreaciated. :-) |
| As you can see in those pictures, if you go much lower than the KV04S, you can quickly run into clearance issues with the rear sight base on a scope with a decent sized objective. In which case you'll need higher rings...which negates the usefulness of a lower mount. |

The rail of the KV-04 does not extend far enough forward to give good eye relief with some scopes. The MI mount may suffer the same problem depending on the scope in question. Non-issue with red dots. The NPZ rail extends all the way up to the rear sight for a reason. |

It sounds like the OP does not want to invest too much in "fancy" AK mounts. In that case, use the UTG Quick Detachable AK Side Mount.
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Quick-Detachable-Double-Mount/dp/B001F0IA1K I had used the KVAR mount for a long time before switching back to the UTG mount. Reason is UTG mount allows prone shooting with the Trijicon TR-24 scope. ––TR24 scope w/KVAR mount setup. http://i52.tinypic.com/xatcpg.jpg ––TR24 scope w/UTG mount setup. (TB uploaded later) |
