my ak has a weld on the end of the barrel do i have to grind off the weld and remove this end piece to install the new muzzle brake?

Yes. I used a dremmel with a cutting wheel to cut the weld off. Just go really slow!

Once I got the weld and nut off I found that the end of my barrel had been turned down. It's didn't have enough material for a standard brake to be threaded on. I put a little cold blue on the end of the barrel and called it quits.
