I am putting a 74 style break on my ak.Is it nesesary for the break to be tight against the sight base?If I tighten it down all the way it lacks about a quarter turn to line up the detent pin.Is it ok to just back it up enough to engauge the detent or should I remove some material from the break till it lines up and locks tight?

None of my Bulgarian flash hiders or slant brakes line up perfectly with the muzzle nut lock.  Many people say it affects accuracy, if it's not tightened all the way flush with the FSB.  But it hasn't hampered accuracy on my AKs to date!

The extended muzzle break for my AMD-65 was about a half turn off. I made a shim out of some very thin aluminium and it fits perfect now. If yours is a 1/4 turn off try cutting up a coke can and make a shim out of it.

None of mine fit flush with the FSB.  None of the Polish, Bulgarian or Romanian kits I have seen fit flush.

Not necessary. I've got vortexes and they don't touch the FSB, and they have bottomed onto the front of the barrel. Works fine.
