| Hello all new guy from Ohio here. I'm looking to pick up my first ak this month but am having a hard time choosing between three variants first is the M10 from Atlantic,i like this rifle because of all new parts although I'd probably switch out to some classic wood furniture. Next from Atlantic the maadi with the solid stock. I like the classic look of this rifle and it seems to have a good reputation. My only concern is if the US barrel will hold up as well. Last but not least the wasr 10/63 from jgsales. They have a combo with a bayonet for 549. With this rifle i don't mind finishing the furniture and doing some duracoat. My concern would be making sure it's actually a 10/63 as lots of stores in my area have mislabeled 10's. Also they have this labeled as a 10/63m not sure what the m is for.. i have handled the M10 and a wasr 10 locally and liked both. Any help suggestions experiences would be appreciated. Thanks |

IMHO, as a first AK, I'd rate them
1)WASR 2) M10 3) Maadi WASR's will get you: -Factory built rifle -OEM cold hammer forged chrome lined bbl and std threads so you can easily change muzzle devices -Std Com Block side rail for optics -Takes Std furniture and accessories M10: -Factory built rifle -OEM cold hammer forged chrome lined bbl. It is however lighter weight than the AKM type and the muzzle devices can be tougher to get off. It does have std pattern threads -Optics side rail is present but, installed higher than on the mil type variants. So, you'd either need a M10 specific mount or deal with even worse cheek welds while using optics -Quad rails- Often misaligned. heat up quickly, and screw are known to loosen easily -able to use std AKM furniture( I really like these when kitted out in AKM trim) Maadi: -Kit build on US receiver for Atlantic by unknown builder -Brand new US Chrome lined bbl -No optics side rail -Closest looking to a military trim AKM -Arabic markings on sights, trunions, etc I'd go WASR for your first rifle, learn to use the irons, get a buttstock cleaning kit, slings, cleaning rod if not present and shoot the hell out of it. Later on, you might like an M10 but, out of the gates it would have a shorter sight radius and would require that proprietary mount if you wanted to play with optics. Though the Maadi is prob a good rifle, I'd prefer factory built with OE spec components for your first AK. HTH BLitz |
