Went to the range today loaded the 84s shot 4 rounds then click nothing. I waited pulled the round out looked at it no strike on the primer. I broke down the rifle inspected the bolt and the firing pin was frozen in place. Got home pulled the bolt apart had to smack the firing pin out and I found 5 little pieces of metal coming out with the firing pin. I inspected the firing pin the spring as well as the bolt. Everything looks ok. Cleaned everything up reassembled the bolt. The only thing different I've done to the rifle is I installed a russian 74 brake. The ammo was norinco 223 yellowbox which I have never shot before. On firing the four rounds there was a notable flash out of the break much more noticable than wolf. My questions Could the little metal pieces I found in the firing pin channel be primer pieces? Could the 74 muzzle break be causing back pressure that could have cause this fouling problem? Is the norinco yellow box ammo something to avoid I've never had any problems with this rifle before. Thanks for any help |

A number of people have posted this same problem and most of those threads are now in the archive. In that case maybe someone who had this problem will check in and do a repost of how they solved the problem. Check your spent casings and see if the primer is rupturing which would cause primer flow into the firing pin channel. Might want to replace the firing pin in case it has wear which is causing it to protrude excessively. May also need to have headspace checked. |

Don't have time to post the whole story but here is a link to my original problem: www.gunsnet.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90200 Bottom line the problem is an oversize FP hole in the bolt. |
