*warning this may cause a huge $hit storm* I started talking to some guy that i met at the gunshow. He saw my ar slung over me and made a smart comment about all of the "crap" i had on it. well we got to talking and ended up debating for an hour or so. We arranged to have a shoot off at my range, this is where it gets interesting. We started out at 25 yds and shot some prone groups and then some walking shots. My ar with a foreward mounted red dot sight, a1 sights, 4x compact scope, quadrail system, bipod, foregrip, and colapsable stock against his standard sar-1. We both had 16" barrels. Honest to god this guy thought he could out perform my ar and i. We were both using wolf ammo. The ar won this round. Then while disapointed in himself and trying to make himself feel better he said something about the durability of my "plastic mag". So i took it out of the rifle and laid it on the cement. i picked up his ak and gave it to him. He smacked the butt stock against it about 4 or 5 times before shutting up. Then we moved out to 50 yds. we shot at a set of bowling pins. There were 7 pins each and we each had 7 rounds in the mag. The one who nocked them down the fastest and didn' t miss as many won. We both engaged them fine but i hit mine faster (alot faster). then from 75 yds. Same test as above. He missed one pin and was slower than me. I hit everyone. We moved up to 100 yds. You had to empty a full mag of 30 in 20 seconds or less into the sheet metal target. The person who had the most in it or tightest group won. He shot first. He just bairly did it in time (i guess he was trying to make good shots). I emptied my mag into the target and shot about a 4"-5" group. Mr.akmachoman missed the target totally 7 times and it looked like a shotgun with some #4 buckshot had peppered his target. Then he said that he could outshoot me at 300 yds. So we did the same thing at 300 yards but instead of 20 seconds we had 40 seconds to empty the mag. We both took about the same time and i had a target with a group of about 7-8". He only hit the target a total of 19 times. I later asked him why he thought he could outshoot me at 300 yds, he said because he thought my .223 bullet would get cought in the wind. Ha, proved him wrong. After that he said he could out do me in the woods. Well we set up a mock rambo combat situation. You had to complete it in a cirtain amount of time shooting double taps and hit the targets as good as possible. You only have two fully loaded mags. there were some targets that only allowed head shots and some that were fully exposed. We decided to make it intresting and make a bet of 100 bucks. pretty big steaks here (atleast for me) so i had to do my absolute best. It came down to the times. We both scored every target so it came down to the times. He finished about 19seconds after me. i won the bet, but more inporntanty i proved the ar is far supirior to the ak. And for all of you ak buffs out there i dropped my ar in a shallow stream and hit the rocks. The sighting system was still zeroed. But just incase i finished with my irons. And i also own a couple of ak's and sks's. So i'm not totally bias. needless to say there's another gunshow this up and comming weekend. He and i are going with one grand to set him up an ar. sorry for causing a $hit storm. and i did not want to just trade off rifles to school him. i wasnt sure of his honesty on the subject. this guy was pretty bias twards the ak, btw i have more ak's and sks's than ar's. so i'm not that bias. |
come on, i expected more. i am very dissapointed in you fmj8. do you just feel lazy or something.

cqbgod, I own and enjoy both systems, but your test didn't prove a lot. 1. Since it was never discussed or objectively tested, you really don't know who is an intrinsically better marksman, you or the other guy. Let him shoot the same course with the AR and you with the AK and then compare. 2. Your budget is $200. Please build an AR out of used parts. Can't do it? Pretty easy for an AK and I even padded the budget a bit. 3. Buy a brand new AR for $500. 4. Try it again without the red dot, without the scope, without the bipod. 5. Try it again with a Kobra or other red dot on the AK. 6. Put your targets inside an automobile and shoot through the glass, doors, etc. Check your hits then. You didn't state the make and model of your scope or red dot (do you really mount both at once?), but they could run the gamut from $30 Chinese crap to an Aimpoint and ACOG. Either way, your rig cost probably a minimum of 3x the AK. You had the advantage of a red dot optic up close, when speed mattered, and a magnified optic and possibly the bipod at a longer distance. I'm sorry, but you set up a contest weighted in your favor. To a degree, you demonstrated the technology advantage we have over our enemies and why it is money well spent. But you really don't have any right to brag. |

Honestly, I think this guy is full of shit. Regardless... You outshot some dude at a gunshow. . . . This does not constitute world shattering news. Get over yourself. OK, "CQB God". Tell ya what. If you are ever in the Knob Creek area, give me a holler and we'll have some AK vs. AR action :) I've got respect for both, but i'm willing to take my chances against a blow hard :) |

A 5.56x45 AR outshot a 7.62x39 SAR-1 in an accuracy contest. No shit Sherlock ...
