hey all,
i've heard that sighting in the irons at 25 yards it will be on target for 100 yards. is the same true when sighting in a psop scope?
thanks

I sight in iron sights and scopes at 25 yards as this will get the bullets hitting on the paper of a target at 100 yards. This works out really well for adjusting the windage as even on a real windy day the effect of the wind on the bullet is a lot less at 25 than 100 yards. Then I move to 100 yards for fine tuning.

It would depend on the height of the scope over the bore, and the ballistics of the rounds you are shooting

For an AR-15, your very best sight-in method is the Improved Battlesight Zero , which is a 50 yard sight-in

For optics, we'd need the height over bore, ammo, barrel length to get you the best range

Not quite, as the scope/bore centerlines are almost  4" apart, which is more than the irons. It's great to start off 'hitting something, anything' then dialing in windage exactly so you only worry about elevation later. Well, farther out may show room for fine tuning windage but you get the idea. Plan on cranking it up a bit the farther you go out.

You'll find later that the center chevron is great for finessing varied yardages by placing the target a bit above/on/under more easily than just 'off the crosshair' on a std western scope.
