yes clips, not magazines.
I never had one, a buddy got one though & he doesn't know much about guns. my question is whether the SKS, w/ the regular fixed magazine, uses clips, maybe like stripper clips, or clips for an M1 Garand? I suspect as much, I found some on midway but they say they work for AKs too, which makes me wonder if those are just for people who are using aftermarket detachable magazines. I figure some clips is the one thing that he really needs w/ the rifle. Let me know if you have any other low cost suggestions. |

are these clips at midway the type to get for a normal SKS?

are there any non-expensive useful functional upgrades you recommend? Obviously, I will not recommend he put a large magazine or some goofy VFG or anything, but is there anything that one can put on the gun that enhances its utility w/o adding complication or points of failure? |

Those will likely work, but you might have to do some filing to get best feeding. You could upgrade the sights, that would be a great upgrade, though the Tech-Sights are ~$60 for rear Tech-Sight, plus SKS adjustment tool, and narrow front post. |

Do you guys think a SKS or a AK is better for one's only x39 rifle (understanding that I have lots of ARs) That question is asked all the time, it really comes down to preference. I own both platforms and enjoy them both for what they offer. If you are only choosing one or the other and don't plan on buying another rifle that shares this caliber then I would go with an AK. |

If you can still find some Yugo ammo on stripper clips, get it and enjoy probably the highest quality x39 clips available which also happen to come with some of the finest x39 ammo. Keep in mind that Yugo x39 is corrosive so you must know how to service your rifle after use. There are a lot of Chinese x39 stripper clips on the market, but they can be hit or miss for smooth functioning.
I use the Yugo clips for shooting and the Chinese ones for storage. The boxes that x39 comes in are not the greatest quality and I tend to end up with a lot of escapee rounds who want free of their box; the cheap Chinese clips bought by the box makes for a better storage option. |
