I took my AK out today and I am really tired of the LONG creep of a trigger pull. I have seen the trigger kits around but which one is most cost efficient and also good quality? Or can I only have one or the other?

The TAPCO G2 FCG is quite good, (IMHO) and inexpensive as well. You can find lots of sources for it.  The two I've noticed most recently are ClassicArms.us (on their Accessories page)  and  Copesdistributing.net.

The absolute BEST AK-clone FCG I've ever used (and bought) is the Red Star Arms (Power Custom) Adjustable Military Trigger group.  It ain't cheap, but it's the best AK trigger I've ever felt.  It is a true "drop-in" fit, is milled steel, and comes "out-of-the-box" with a military two-stage pull of 4 lbs. (at least mine did) and has a beautifully clean "break". You can adjust it for single-stage pull, if you prefer, and you can also adjust the take-up, pull-weight, and the over-travel as well.  I bought one from Brownells.com (part# 713-000-015  @ $84.99 / 76.49 ) for my PSL-54C and it is so good that I don't dare adjust it.  I've ordered another for my Cugir AKM-clone, so I've already "put my money where my mouth is", twice.  Call Brownell's or go on their website––It's not in the printed catalog yet.  I've also seen it on Cope's and Blackjackbuffers.com as well.  BTW, if you have a C&R license, Brownell's will give you a 10% or better discount ( so will MidwayUSA).

There are other good after-market FCG units, including Arsenal-USA and (I think) K-Var; I haven't tried them myself, so I can't comment on them, but I'm sure some of the other folks on this forum have, and will.

Hope this helps.  Good Shooting!

You convinced me.  I just ordered a Red Star FCG for my .308 Saiga.  I'll have to file the right side of the hammer sleeve to accomodate the bolt hold open plate and move the trigger forward with a pistol grip conversion.  Can you adjust down to 3 Lbs. pull on them?  What pull did the Tapcos
come with that you used?  Adjustable has a nice ring to it.  So does machined.

The TAPCO G2 fcg that came on my Cugir AKM-clone (MD-75 Sporter, according to the importer, TN Gun) was about a 6 to 7 lb. pull, although it felt lighter, probably because it was quite smooth.  It was much better than most of the fcgs that come on the majority of these rifles and had no "trigger-slap".  However, it was a single-stage and the "break" or "let-off" point was vague.  I bought the RSA fcg because I greatly prefer a two-stage trigger with a break of 4 to 5 lbs.  The most important factors are that it be smooth, with a very discernible break-point, and, most importantly, be extremely consistent.  The RSA unit meets those requirements just about perfectly.

You asked about adjusting the RSA unit down to 3 lbs..  The instructions say that you can adjust it from 3.5 to about 8 lbs.  You may be able to adjust it lower, but it is generally considered UNSAFE to adjust the pull weight below 3.5 lbs. (except on benchrest-rifles and the like), and I would advise against it.  I think that you will find that it feels much lighter than it actually is, probably due to its smoothness and crispness.

Hope this answers your questions.  Good shooting!

3 1/2 Lbs. is still a good pull for a battle rifle.  I can't wait until I get my Red Star to try it out.
