hey guys, I googled the hell out of it, and used the search engine, but to no avail... so, I have come to the conclusion that my MAK-90 is cut for an underfolder. and I would love to install one on it when it becomes unbanned. problem is, I havent been able to find instructions on how to do it. anybody know of any? its gotta be drool all over yourself retardedly easy to do, but I'm just curious |

ok, update turns out that my MAK-90 is a pretty rare extremely early import that doesnt even have MAK-90 on the front trunnion, and has a underfolder cut. but it also has the stupid angle cut and welded receiver, so I guess I"m stuck with a under folder. oh well, guess I'll have to piece together another one with a Krinkov style side folder and a amd 63 front end. how cool would that be? |

What do you mean by "cut for an underfolder"? Does it have the holes machined in the side fore the underfolder mechanism? Or do you mean because it is slant cut receiver? To install an undefolder you have to replace the rear trunnion and drill/machine the holes in the side for the underfolder to attach to. |

mine has the holes stamped in the sides of the reciever above where the pistol grip would go, looks kinda like a big plus sign+ with a about 1/2" hole in the center. there is a cover that has been secured in it with a very long rivet that holds both sides in. why would I need a different rear trunnion? other than to get rid of the tang, which could be cut off. |
the thing is, my receiver is already welded shut on the back, it has the cut outs on the side for the underfold, and the tang is welded on. this apparently is a very early MAK and must have started life as a type 56 underfolder before the 89 import restrictions. near as I can tell anyway. |

Redhorseman, Underfolder receivers are supposed to be solid in the back - no need to drill out the rivets, etc and replace the trunion. If your receiver is solid on the back with only a welded on tang, all you will have to do when the ban goes away is get out your trusty dremel w/cutting disk, take off the tang at the rear, and cut through the rivet holding the cover over the + sign. Cut right through the center of the rivet, while being careful not to bugger up the sides of the receiver. I did this with a mak-90 I had (put on a tack welded fixed folder) after having replaced the FCG with the redstar arms US made version, and the furniture with a black US made set. Can't wait for the ban to die... Putting the underfolder on is easy once you have the stock kit and the receiver opening clear - you may have to play with it for a little bit, but it's very doable. |
