hey guys got a quick question. what the difference between the semi automatic ak rifle and the fully automatic ak rifle? is it just internal parts?

i know in the ar its a bunch of internal differences.

The legal issue is the 3rd hole in the receiver, which holds the auto sear. AK kit builds use the same bolt bits, and can use the rest of the fcg (fire control group) assuming US parts count is not a problem.

While having a FA(full auto) carrier handy for an AR can cause trouble for the owner of a semi, having leftover auto sears for an AK with just 2 rec fcg holes is not a problem for the feds. Welcome to the world of atf(alcohol tobacco and firearms) interpretation.

Here's some help:

AR = short for AR15 (civilian version of the M16)

AK = short for Automat Klashnikov, the AK-47

FCG = Fire Control Group = Hammer, disconnector, trigger

US = United States
