I didn't even notice that. If the scope is mounted to the dust cover it's not going to hold zero from what I've read. |
| I have one AK with a dust cover scope that I tweaked the hell out of and it holds good enough for a red dot. Problem is everytime you take it off to clean it has to be re-zeroed. Pretty useless, I agree. B-Square made a saddle mount that looks like it would be a lot more stable. Used pins in the reciever to hold it and could still remove the dust cover for cleaning. Never tried one but if I ran across one I'd give it a try. |
Run, don't walk, away from this one. The one I had was the worst mount I've ever had on anything, including dust cover mounts and those .22 dovetail see through mounts. Yes, you can remove the dust cover with it on, but you can't remove the bolt carrier without removing the mount and if you don't use locktite on the screws holding it in place within 5 shots it will be flopping around loose, but if you do use locktite you can't clean it. You also have to be very careful where you grab your bolt handle. If you put your finger where it normally goes and charge the rifle you'll either get pinched or cut by the mount. It's not attached with pins either. It's attached with two special bolts. Tighten them too much and your receiver will be pinched and the rifle will jam. Don't tighten them enough and the mount will move. Either get a side rail mount or an Ultimak. Those both work. I once even had a dust cover mount that worked pretty well, (you just had to rezero if you took it off), but that B-Square thing is an absolute abortion. |
| I beg to differ.....scope mounts and sights on dust covers can be extremely accurate...look at galils, or a krebs KTR-03...there is 2 for example have owned both and both were dead on.....now your AK and that set up..well probably not so good......but scope mounts and sights on dust covers are ALL not a bad idea and they do work VERY VERY well |

Wow, this is an easy one. Standard stock, no scope. The AK purist in me is deeply offended by the other options. RPK stocks only look right on...well, RPKs. As for scopes, particularly when they're mounted on the top cover, I think they also look out of place. I've never seen the point of scoping a rifle that shoots 3"-5" groups, I mean the thing was never intended to be a precison rig. Putting a red dot on an AK seems logical, but not a scope. Keep it in the basic configuration, dude. |

After i got my WASR My uncle have me the dust cover scope mount and scope. So free is always good, I didn't lose anything. As for the RPK stock I like it but its true the barrel needs to be changed, but the RPK stock feels better in my short stubby arms. After looking at picture after picture just about all AK's look the same. So I wanted mine to stand out a bit. And most offerings are like Harley dealership chrome accessories. Sure you added it making the bike different from what it was but its not custom because someone else in the same town does the same thing. |
