DISCLAIMER: the weapon im trying to notionally fix was lost yesterday in an ice fishing accident
i got an ak built not too long ago worked fine for about 100 rounds then i got the intermittent double tap. NDS-3 receiver, tapco g-2 single hook trigger. i know of the documented problems there are concerning these two items, but i did not know that at the time it was built. i know of mods you can do to the trigger to fix it, regarding filing the shelf on the disconnector and hammer, but i want the easiest fix, which im assuming is an all new FCG? if thats the case, which i hope it is, which FCG works well with the NDS-3? also, should i get a trigger retaining plate to replace my shephards hook? or is that not really a factor in this? thanks guys |

Yes, it's the FCG. This is posted on Nodak's site under the NDS-3 listing:
We don't recommend the use of the Tapco G2 "single hook" trigger in the NDS-3. There have been reports of malfunctions when used in this receiver. This only applies to the NDS-3 "economy" receiver. The most common problem is "hammer follow". This is when the hammer is NOT caught by the disconnector, and follows the bolt carrier forward, failing to reset for the next shot. This does not occur in all builds involving our NDS-3/NDS-65 and the G2 "single hook" set. But, we advise that caution needs to be observed when combining these two products. Hammer follow is due to a combination of small dimensional variances on each of the parts in the assembly (called "stacking dimensions"). When you combine them together, the hammer is not pushed down far enough for the disconnector to grab it.
I would recommend the Red Star Arms non-adjustable trigger for your replacement. The shepherds hooks shouldn't be part of your issue but utilizing a plate does make life easier. But they're not a necessity. |

what do you guys think of the arsenal single stage FCG? its 26 bucks from midwayusa I have one that came with a rifle I bought that someone else built that is smooth as butter, but the one that came in my Arsenal SGL-21 was the worst trigger I've ever felt in an AK. I guess the answer is "it depends" lol. The one I have in my underfolder is smooth but the SGL one I had was very mushy and had a crappy undefined take-up. |
