 These targets where shot at 125 yards as the 100 yard stands where being used. 1st target is a 5 shot group with 150 SMKs and 44 grains of varget around 2.80 OAL with hornady Tap brass. The 5 shots is around .9 with the 4 shot group .6.  2nd target is a 10 shot string of 165 Sierra Game Kings over 44 grains of varget around 2.70 OAL mixed brass. found them at the local fun store so I tried them. There is 3 fliers as you can tell and the bottom one I yanked due to another rifle going off at the same time. A little over a 1" for 7 of the shots.  3rd Target is the 150 Hornady FMJBT over 43 grains of varget around 2.70 OAL and mixed brass. I think if I bump it up to 44 like the above loads that group will shrink more. The 41 grains I tried with it wouldn't cycle the bolt some times. This is the 1st target of the day and not as good but I don't think the load is quite there yet either. Minus the flier its around 1.5 but I think I can work that bullet down to a solid 1" or better also.  All in all I would like to see somebody put a PRS on one to see if it works as the CTR just isn't good for benching in my opinon. I think with the 175 SMK I'll have even better results and with a better shooter who knows. I was unable to chrono anything due to my little range being packed on such a nice spring day. |

I have shot Match Kings for over 30 years and in just about every caliber they make them in. You are indeed correct, the MK goes a LONG way toward making you look good. I have shot custom bullets costing three or more times more but I have yet to find one that will out shoot the MK. Now, I freely admit that maybe the custom bullets are better and maybe I am the limiting factor, but if that is the case, then after all these years I might as well stick with dirt cheap MK and shoot the same size groups 'cause I "ain't" gonna get better! I am not a big fan of Sierra hunting bullets in general, but when it comes to putting bullets down range in tiny little groups, MK is the way to go. I just wish they made one in .510 caliber of about 650 to 800 grains. Dream on... |
 44 grains of varget FC brass 2.800 OAL 150 SMK. I tried going up to 44.5 and 45 but the groups just opened up after that. Thats 4 shots in that ragged hole and the 1 flyer and the flyer was the 5 shot...figures. Anyway the 4 shot group is .35 center to center. 100 yards |
