Does anyone make a quality weaponlight with decent output and good runtime? I don't really like the idea of having to put fresh batteries in every hour or so... |
KL3 is for 6V, and it's only 19 Lumens for 4.25 hours. The KL2 is the 9V, but the output is similarly low. 25 Lumens for 4 hours is the specs, if I'm not mistaken. It's not a heckuva lot, and the beam is very diffuse and the obvious lack of throw. IIRC, the KL2 isn't much of a production item anymore, as the KL6 (65 lumen, 95 minute runtime) conversion is now Surefire's flagship 9v LED. The old 19 LED KL2 is neat, but the KL6 is much more practical. -Cap'n |
The KL3 fits both the std. size 6v and 9v lights; the KL2 fits the Millennium style 9v & up lights. Both have very short throw and really aren't suited for weapons use. The new X200's, KL4, KL5 & KL6 LED's are strong enough to be used for weapons use and their runtime ranges from 75-90 minutes at peak output. The new KL1 LED head is also a worthy addition for the Scout light or a mounted E2 but an exact runtime needs to be established. Rumor has it that they're using 3w Luxeons and if that's the case a 4hr. peak runtime seems impossible. There are some unconventional LED light setups potent enough for weapons use that can have runtimes as long as 2-3 hours. |
It will also run on 9V, for about 7 Hours. It's bright enough for target identification indoors. I used one in that role for several months. |
| We got side tracked with LED discussion but paying attention to the topic... one my favorite setups is to use either a mounted Surefire E2/E2D or their new Scout light and use the MN02 lamp. The MN02 lamp gives 2-2.5hrs. of runtime and is rated at 25 lumens but believe me, it does an amazing job. It's output is honestly within 10-15% of the MN03 which is rated at 60 lumens for 75 min. |
Excellent suggestion. I have a Wine Light II that uses the MN02 lamp. Great hot spot but not much side spill. It would be a good weapon light beam. |
My wife stole my Wine Light to use with the Sig she also stole from me. Thats okay, i took her old 6P and turned it into a weapon light. |
