Thank you for your reply. The reason I asked is because I don't want a threaded barrel and I would prefer to buy it that way instead of taking it to my gunsmith to have it done.
I have a .300 BLK with a 16" barrel and I wish I would've done it that way, I use it for hunting and I don't really need a flash hider on it.

Muzzle devices can act as brakes, comps, flash hiders or the fourth function:  to throw blast forward. I cannot imagine not wanting one of those functions.  The latter function seems like it would be especially suited to hunting w/o a suppressor when you may not be wearing hearing protection, or not that much.  Black river tactical makes a light weight simple small funnel type "linear comp".  KAK makes a couple that are slightly larger and made of aluminum.

"brakes, comps, flash hiders or the fourth function:  to throw blast forward"
Non of which I need on a hunting rifle. I'm just a simple man but blast will be thrown forward anyway. As far as a suppressor is concerned that would be nice on my .300 BLK but after the 200$ tax stamp another 1000$ for a suppressor is not a logical purchase for me. I do have an Accu-Tac flash hider on my 300 BLK.

That's not too bad for 2 suppressors. Where I live they're very proud of their stuff so they charge too much.

I just want a barrel with a target crown. If I can't buy it that way I'll just take it to my gunsmith and have it cut down.

The 95TTSX  expands down to 1600fps, and has proven to be quite the success in the WLV.  The 90 grain Gold Dot is around 1700 fps and is kicking arse as well.

When are the barrels due in?  Any ballistic data on the gold dots?

Thanks

Few weeks on more barrels and the 90 gold dot has an unofficial BC of .236. The 95TTSX is better, but much more expensive.

I may need to buy a blem barrel and laser marked upper.

Any reason not to do a pinned 14.5" for a general purpose rifle?

I have 250 barrels on order in various lengths and they will start coming in soon. Hopefully they last longer than the last batch because I'm ordering another 250 this weekend and they will take a minute to get here.

That's great to hear about the quantity of barrels you've got order.

Also, I'm very interested in this caliber and hope to add at least one to the stable in the near future if I can.

I'm on the fence about which length, and it may still change yet, but a 14.5" unpinned barrel sounds tempting.

I have committed myself to the .277wlv for my latest build but I just cannot decide which barrel I want to use.

I have already purchased the dies, crimp, and identification bands. I even popped for a keychain!

I'm looking at either the 16" ARP or the stainless 18".

I'll be using it for hunting and target/range use with a 3-9x scope.

I like the idea of the shorter, more compact 16" for carry and brush work, but I don't want to give up any performance/accuracy if thats the trade off.

Normally, I would use one of my 300blk rifles or pistol just doing something different.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would go with the 18" personally...Nice balance, better velocity, and less muzzle blast, JMHO.

Good luck with it.

I ordered one of the 10.5" .300BLK uppers DSG ran for their Black Friday sale. I want to get some get trigger time with the .300 before deciding, but I've been thinking that a re-barrel to .277WLV might be in the cards. I'm going SBR, so the 10.5" barrel would be a no-brainer.

Are you going to do any 12.5" barrels?

OP, glad to hear this is really taking off.  You knew it was a good idea.

I am wondeirng about the suitability of any of the factory offerings for very short barrels, like 8 ish  inch barrels.  I mean, are any of the loads using very fast burning powders such as lil gun or simialr or are they better suited to longer barrels?

Wondering b/c that is one thing that draws me to BO, the fact the the factory ammo is suitable for the very short barrels.

Thx

Yes you can run H110/Win 296, Lil Gun, etc. in the 8.2, 10.5 and 12.5" barrels that are on the way. In fact, we have a 16" barrel with carbine gas that we're  testing that seems to like powders from H110 to AA2200 and will cycle fine...

so, ive got to ask...does this chambering have any potential for shooting subtonics?  I know that is outside the original design parameters, but that bison armory subsonic 6.8 project got me thinking.

Of course, it could be done?  The specific question is whether it could be done w/ a heavyish .277 bullet that could cycle the action in a magazine length cartrigde?

Congratz on this milestone. It is amazing to see the progress that has been made here!
I do believe that we have officially graduated from bad advice to a bad advice sandwich. - RedBlueLitez

We'll know shortly... we've had 150 grain subs run fine through a 1:11 twis barrel.

We have some 1:7 twist barrels coming in like the BSP and some 180 grain Woodleigh bullets to try with them. Should work just fine as like the BLK it will be easy to get case fill with the smaller case. 11.2 grains of Norma 200 was used to push the 150's so we'll try some other more available powders as well with the 180's.

Thanks for the kind words and as you know, getting a seat at the SAAMI table is not cheap or easy. Looks like we have a major ammunition manufacturer interested in supporting the cartridge, which should come to fruition around June we hope, and they will "sponsor" getting the submittal done. Time will tell but it looks promI sing so far.
