Finally going to put an acog on my m16 with 11.5 inch barrel and wanted to see what people thought about the led models. It seems there is more to go wrong and the way I read the literature the tritium and fiber optic models have the bac.

If you want lightweight got fiber/tritium
If you need the battery powered illumination then go that route. I think the led model with a battery installed is close to 18oz |

The two big features of the LED model are a) it does NOT have the fiber optic feed which is so bright and washes out the reticle, that they are commonly taped over to defeat this feature and b) the RMR mount pad is forward on the objective end so that it can be used for passive (NV) aiming.

The weight difference is 4 ounces.
I prefer the LED to fiber. The fiber is too dark sometimes and too bright other times. The LED is always just right. |

I bought the LED myself, as the fiber didnt work well in Vegas (super bright targets, shaded shooting bench.) I also liked the more forward mounted RMR option.
However I've yet to mount the LED - got this cool scope then immediately had to head across the country to help family for a few months. So can't say how well it works. |

One of the nice things about the fiber-optic ACOG is that it doesn't need batteries. However, the LED ACOG is easier to use until the day that no one has AA batteries.
Weight has been mentioned. Either choice is smaller and lighter than an LPVO. I vote for the LED version. |

LED all day every day. You need to be able to control your illumination settings.

I honestly never turn the illumination on, so I saved 4oz and got a TA01NSN...love it. I did an offset T2 instead of the RMR. For RMR mounting, go LED...much better forward. I have the RMR mount if anyone is interested

View Quote Everyone talks about the tritium/FO being better for TEOTWAWKI, but never talks about the fact that lithium AAs are <$2/ea, can be replaced once a year and have a 20yr shelf life. This means that as long as you buy 20 Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAs when you buy the sight, and then swap the battery out every year, and buy another 2 pack of batteries every other year, should batteries suddenly become unobtainable 10 years after you buy the optic you still have another 19-20 years of illumination left. Contrast with tritium/FO where you have ~12-15yrs from manufacture to tritium too dim to be useful, but the FO can give you an illuminated reticle during daylight for decades. TA02 is going to be my next ACOG, with an RM09 on top. |

As a ACOG lover I’m really looking seriously at the LED myself.

Haven't seen the need for LED illumination over my fiber optic versions with long dead tritium. By the time it gets dark enough that the fiber doesn't illuminate, it's dark enough that I'm no longer wanting to use magnification anyway.

I want to get one of these but there is a thread on here about how the brightness settings are crapping out in a few positions and several people seem to have this issue.

That's super cool! Now please do a TA33 version! The most requested ACOG update is an LED TA33, but Trijicon won't do it.

I've been running something similar in principal for a bit and it cures the problem of shooting from a dark area into a lit area. The problem that is most immediately apparent is the design of the body. I went to your website to do a pre order and after looking at the pics, realized that it isn't going to work with my mount. The first upgrade that many do is to go with an alternative mount. I run a schaffer mount with a Kram spacer. How many mounts have you confirmed fitment on? |

If you haven't, I'd suggest checking them out before you buy. I love my TA31, but it isnt the most comfortable to shoot with. You really have to retrain yourself in the way you shoot to accommodate the short eye relief. Personally, I like shooting with the TA11 better, due to the eye relief. I don't know of anyone that has shot with a ta31 for any length of time that hasn't gotten a busted nose or brow from being scoped. If you think this might wind up on something bigger than a 5.56, get something with more eye relief. As for LED or not ... either model will work without illumination. When I'm target shooting on low percentage targets, I use a black reticle anyway. It is the most precise. If it absolutely, positively has to work no matter what, get the fiber/Tritium. If you don't mind dealing with batteries, get the LED. If you're gonna run the piggy back red dot, I'd get the LED model for that reason alone. |

Looks like it will fit. LaRue mount looks like the dimensions as the original. My REM ACOG goes over top of the mount base.

I had been working on a much jankier version of this, using a Photon LED light ranger banded to the optic. Yours looks really good. You should try and get a NSN for that... This also means that all of the older ACOGs with dead tritium now have a new lease on life. |

Thanks. View Quote It weighs 2.7 oz. The Fiber Optic will glow slightly depending on the LED setting used. The military use Chemlites and tape them down on the fiber optic and cover the entire FO with hurricane tape. You will no longer need to buy Chemlites and you can still use vinyl tape or hurricane tape if the glow bothers you. The glow is so faint when using setting 1 or 2. The Rheostat sticks out 11.2 mm past the windage knob but I wanted it to be used with gloves and easy to adjust on the fly. It doesn't interfere with the Line of sight or FOV. I have done drop tests right onto the Rheostat and it holds up perfectly. |

I have been using them since 2008 and they produce the units to my specs and they are made of the 30% glass filled polymer just like the AR pistol grips and hand guards. I have sold over 5,000 REM 21s for the Mepro 21 sight and IWI torture tested it and it passed all their tests. This REM ACOG will be just as rugged. |

So it sounds more like the two halves lock together through a pivoting motion at the top, vs. snapping together with the two halves parallel to each other. Does that sound correct? Sounds Like it should be just as easy to remove as install. |

Trijicon should dump the tritium and go with a switchable ambient/led lit fiber. Ambient light, lighting the fiber means you only need battery/led power in limited day time situations and in dark. Batteries could last a very long time due to limited necessary use and because very little power is required to light a fiber vs a reticle directly. Make versions for both accupoints and I will be ready to buy. |

I have couple of both.
I like both and couldn’t chose one over the other. The convenience of fiber is nice. The adjustability of led is also nice. Go handle them both and pick one. You won’t be disappointed either way. |

I have a Browe that works very well. It auto regulates its own reticle brightness.
