I have 3 or 4 300 blackout's inbound between 5" and 6.5". Although not truly apples to apples, I'm going to do as close of a comparison between them as I can. Not apples-to-apples in that one company is sending a barrel, another is sending an upper, a third is sending a complete firearm.
What all would you like to see in a comprehensive review? I have a chrono, will do velocity testing from each barrel with ammo from the same lot (subs and supers) Have a nice rifle rest, will shoot groups at 50 & 100 yards, then 6" steel plate at 175 with best glass I have. What else would you want to see? |
|
I have a 6.25" KAK barrel so I would like to see some velocity test. What buffers are you going to run?
|
|
I'm interested in velocity for Barnes 110gr from a 6.5" barrel.
I'm on the verge of building a slightly longer Rattler-style AR. |

View Quote Pretty sure I have barnes 110's, rem 115's, rem 220's, and one more super and sub load ETA a couple are coming with buffers, will see what they provide otherwise, I have a handful of buffers (the usual, standard carbine, H2, H3) will work with them to figure optimal range |

I'd like to see some pics of these shorties! I wouldn't mind finding a 6"ish barrel that works with subs and supers preferably with no can, that would be cool

Chrono would be very interesting.
Please be careful of your hands and fingers. |

I have a 10.5 and 8.5. Suppressed, seems the 8.5 has much more recoil. Don’t know how you could test that.

Also interested in the short 300 with 110 Barnes. I need an ultra compact as short as possible 300 that I can fit in a regular backpack.

I have seen reviews of the KAK 6.25 and similar barrels anywhere from 1800-2100 fps with the Barnes 110. That should still give you expansion out to 350-450 yards.

V7 and R2B have arrived, waiting on two more then it's game on. will get a couple pictures up on IG (@rexnanorum) and try to figure out my pic hosting passwords.

Plan to do any shooting suppressed? my 8.5" is very easy on the ears suppressed but I have wondered if a 5" would have more bark

Quoted:
The AAC 51t mount tucked under the forend on the R2B is a placeholder, it actually wont work as it goes back over the shoulder a little, but the R2B gas block is right up against the shoulder. Wont work on the V7 unless I cut the brand new magnesium rail a bit. The SAS Reaper's TOMB mount fits fine on both. So I'll probably bring tools and hot swap the SAS TOMB mount and use the SAS Reaper for testing. I have the blast diverter for that as well, so I can fire the tucked barrel unsuppressed and not damage anything. Anyone have a spare tomb mount or two? I can trade you something worthwhile, but no budget to buy one right now https://i.imgur.com/CTDiuKR.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/b4jyoKl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/txrLZwe.jpg View Quote |

how's this coming along? I saw a RTKBA barrel for like $140 and it seemed interesting. My thought is that on an SBR with an LWRC short stock would be tiny and light without needing to fold
curious how these work without a can as I am without at the moment. |

View Quote When the ammo gets here, I’ll likely just do the R2B and V7 in one range trip, then the Mc6sd and veritas once they get here. Might be easier to do it in two parts Without a can, these are designed to run just fine with supers. Most wouldn’t put on a long scope and use a bench, but Joel at V7 said last time he did he was getting 1-2” groups @100 with his 6.5”. I’ll be doing the same, but from a rest |

The post above about Barnes 110 TSX going 1800-2100 out of a 5.5-6" barrel is smoking crack
That's a BIG difference first off and saying it will expand out to 300+ yards is nuts I have a 12.5" and it went 2,100 fos Out of a 5-6" you would be really lucky to get that low 1,800 fps figure and damn lucky if at 100 yards it expanded at all |

Quoted: I don't know about all that. I spoke to a guy at V7 tech support about their 6.5" barrels and we started talking about velocities and reloading. Long and short, 2100 fps may not be that farfetched from a 6.5" 300 BO barrel shooting a 110 gr bullet. He also said, and I quote "you would be real surprised at the performance out to 200 yards." In any case, I've got mine ordered and will find out soon enough. View Quote |

For my money, I don't know if there exists a more aesthetically pleasing expanded bullet.

Finally fired mine yesterday. 6.5" V7 barrel shooting factory Hornady 110 gr Vmax. Only shot 5 rounds down the barrel, I don't have any sights on this sumbitch yet. Checked for function, everything was good. Chronographed 2 rounds. Velocity was 2034 and 2061. 2100 fps should not be that hard to attain with handloads hopefully. I'll check accuracy next.
