I sighted in my new Savage 9317 HMR and had 4 of 6 casings split. They were the Hornady 17gr. Varmint Express V-Max bullets. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Just a bad batch of bullets? http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y84/brush_buster/IMG_1003.jpg |
Have the same gun (bougt a couple weeks ago), been shooting the same ammo (newly purchased), no problems. Tack driver. Remington 17gr vmax seems to group better than the Hornady, but I've had a couple "duds" with the Remington, or at least I will have to shoot the casing twice for it to fire. |
i was thinking the same thing. i bet that is exactly what the problem is. |
Thanks for the information fellas. I certainly do appreciate it. BTW the barrel definitely says 17HMR. |
| Just because it says 17HMR doesn't mean it was reamed properly. I bought a Marlin in 17M2. I fired one round through it to see how loud it was going to be, and immediately upon ejecting the case, I knew something wasn't right. The entire case was bulged and the neck was gone. It looked like a helium bottle without the top part. You could tell the bore was 17 caliber, but the chamber was obviously out of spec. |
+1 I have the same gun. Great little gun no issues with any brand of ammo |
